Gunsmithing (revised)

I swear, if I see one more person say "unrealistic" in relation to the game about zombies I'm going to scream. Extended magazines aren't the only way to increase ammo capacity in a pistol, the frame of the gun can be replaced and a double-column magazine used, which is a definite modification of the gun. I'm not sure how exactly my idea is "unwieldy" either, it's only slightly more complex than the system for use of revivification syringes. You have the items and the skill, you can mod a gun, you don't, you can't. What's so difficult about that? The original mechanics of the idea were pretty complicated, this is way more simple. As far as overpowered, it's really not much more powerful than a zombie loaded up with all the Vigor Mortis skills and Ankle Grab. You can blast them out of their socks and one AP later they're back on their feet with full HP and tearing you to pieces. Gunsmithing would require a lot of XP to even get (total of 600XP for an average civilian, with a minimum of 375 or so for military characters and a maximum of 900XP for a scientist character), plus they'd have to spend a ton of AP to find the kits and tools, including AP spent finding duplicate items. There's only so much "balance" you can put into something like this before it just ceases to be even worth the effort of implementing it in the game.--Skullhunter 08:27, 18 Nov 2005 (GMT)

You know, you almost made my own point. if it takes so much to balance it, well... shouldn't it get thru your head that we (the masses) don't want it? --Spellbinder 02:16, 20 Nov 2005 (GMT)

I must agree with Spellbinder. Suggestions for Urban Dead are practically binary: they're either good or they're not good. Almost all of the suggestions that have survived thus far have survived completely (or almost completely) unopposed, and they have all, every one, been simple. Gunsmithing is just too complex for its own good. The majority will ever be satisfied because they'll all want something different for their special weapon. Which reminds me, watch the after-dinner/speech shootout scene in The Naked Gun 2 1/2 sometime, heh. You'll see what I mean. Bentley Foss 21:22, 20 Nov 2005 (GMT)

I don't know guys, I guess after seeing ideas way more complex get "keep" votes (Necronet comes immediately to mind) I figured maybe it had a chance. This'll probably be my last suggestion anyway, I've gotten a little sick of people taking the "If you don't want your writing to be edited mercilessly, then don't submit it here." caveat on the editing interface as license to be complete and unrepentant assholes.--Skullhunter 21:43, 20 Nov 2005 (GMT)

I must actually disagree with Spellbinder and Bentley Foss on this one (even though I don't really like your idea, Skullhunter). There have been suggestions of chainsaws that made sense, as well as a few other ideas that we'd generaly think people woudn't get right. But then again, those usualy aren't made by the same person whom posted the original suggestion. --McArrowni 21:56, 20 Nov 2005 (GMT)

I know exactly what its like to see your suggestions flamed down one after another, Skullhunter. So i really can understand the frustation you might be feeling. TRY, try try try not to take it personaly. Nobody thinks anything bad about you, or any negitive feelings at you at all. (unlike lets say... thor)--Spellbinder 01:21, 22 Nov 2005 (GMT)
