Prior to the faction system introduced with Operation:Metamorphosis, every Random was assigned to one of six geographically tied squads. When it was realized that Bravo had no privates attrition was high and the Randoms weren't as big as they had previously been, it was decided the squad system with it's numerous ranks would be abolished to be replaced with factions and a cut-down rank system.
