The Allford Family
Captain Reginald Allford, RN
A decorated Naval officer of high esteem, Captain Reginald Allford settled in Malton at the end of his sea-faring career, opening up a small pub in the south of Gatcombeton and filling it with all kinds of maritime memorabilia.
Captain Allford married a local girl in his later years, and from this marriage produced one son, Eustace Allford. He also joined the Navy, and was discharged honorably after his service in the Falklands. He returned to Malton to take over the running of the Allford Arms, and remained proprietor up to the point of the quarantine.
A Mystery
The fate of Eustace Allford remains a mystery - some say he died defending the pub his father built, others say he went underground with a life-time supply of SPAM-in-a-can, and is busy digging a tunnel to freedom. If the latter is true, so far no evidence of the tunnel entrance has been found, nor has there been any other clue to the fate of this sprightly 60 year old man...
The Allford Arms
In recent times, Captain Allford's pub, The Allford Arms, has become a hang-out for all manner of reprobates, and while the carousing can often be described as barely acceptable by the standards of decency, nevertheless, it is noted with approval that at least the nautical traditions of this once fine establishment are still being observed.
