Hello, my name is foobiebletch and I'm a zombie.
Urban Dead Anonymous members: "Hi, foobiebletch."
Well, I've been playing UD for a month or two, and I've got my zed character to the point where buying the remaining skills doesn't make much sense, so I decided to look deeper into the whole UD thing, here on the wiki. And I have some questions. If you happen to run across my page, let's talk about the questions on my talk page.
Question 1. What is the point of being in a group?
So far the only answers I'm coming up with have to do with roleplaying, metagaming, and other out-of-game topics. I'd like some guidance. Does group membership bring on any real strategic advantage over lone players like me? What group, or what kind of group, should I join, if any?
Question 2. There is a notable asymmetry between zombies and survivors that seriously calls into question some death cult principles. Anyone can convert a survivor to a zombie through combat, but converting a zombie to a survivor requires a syringe, which takes skill to use. This certainly makes sense when you consider UD as a simulation of a "real" zombie plague on a town. But it means that the two groups aren't symmetrical; there's a bias in favor of players becoming zombies. In order to offset this bias, the skill and class systems set up various other ways to make being a survivor both more appealing and more, um, survivable. But as a guy with a strong love of math, I wonder what it would be like to play a game where the weapons, skills, and ability to convert on both sides were identical. (Maybe it'd be just plain boring.)
Thanks for listening, if you did.
