Return of a Fallen Warrior
"Guys! Where are you?!" Johnny shouted. He had tripped while running through the junkyard and had been separated from the others. He now ran through the maze of old car parts and trash, searching for a familiar face. When he rounded a corner, he found one. Ten yards away stood Mercinus, staring back at him with those cold, dead eyes. As Mercinus approached him, he searched his pockets. In one, he had a pistol. In the other, a revivification syringe. Mercinus grabbed him, and Johnny punched him in the face. While he was stunned, Johnny shoved the syringe into his arm, causing him 2 pass out almost instantly. As Johnny recovered from the shock of what just happened, he noticed feeding groans in the distance, closing in on his position. He threw Mercinus over his shoulders and ran off.
A New Ally
Tripp Redfield searched desperately for ammunition. It would only be a matter of time before the zeds found his hiding place. And what was he going to do about Kareen? He promised Johnny he would keep her safe. As he rummaged through a storage closet, a voice behind him said, "What do you want?" He spun around to see a pretty, red-headed woman pointing a pistol at his head. "I, I'm Tripp Redfield," he stammered. "My convoy was overrun so I escaped and ran here." "You gave away my hiding place!" she screamed. They then noticed loud noises downstairs. "My God," the woman said. "They've found us."
They ran, searching for a way out. They came to a hallway with wires all over the floor. As they ran, the floor broke, and they both fell through. However, their feet were tangled in the wires, so they were left hanging upside down a few feet above the horde. There were about 15 zombies in the room, so they both pulled out pistols and started shooting.
Within minutes, the room was clean. The woman pulled out a knife and cut Tripp and herself down. "We're gonna have to find some place safe," she said. "Who are you?" Tripp asked. "I'm Lindsay Parker. I've been hiding here for the past 2 months, ever since my military unit got wiped out." They could hear zombies in the distance. "We should go," Tripp said. They then ran out into the night.
The Choice
"Wha- huh, where am I?" Mercinus woke up in a dark, unfamiliar room. "Keep your voice down," Johnny said, appearing out of the shadows. "Zeds are close." "What happened? Where are we?" Mercinus whispered. "We're in the Byers Building in Wray Heights." Johnny then told him everything that had happened since the night the zombies got to him. "Oh God," Mercinus said. "So, everything we worked for is gone?" "Almost," Johnny replied. "We're to rendevous at Hildebrand Mall to figure out our next move."
Their conversation was cut short. Zombies, smelling fresh meat nearby, began tearing away at the barricades. "Run!" Mercinus shouted as he realized what was happening. He and Johnny went out a back door onto Trivola Street. As they ran, more zombies appeared out of the darkness. They came to a carpark, only to discover that they were trapped. Zombies were closing in on all sides. "Well, it was good knowing you," Mercinus said wryly. Suddenly, headlights appeared, and gunfire rained down on the horde. Dozens of men in camouflage uniforms and red berets jumped out of trucks and disposed of the zombies. Before they could react, Mercinus and Johnny were grabbed and thrown into the back of one of the trucks.
They were taken to Brancker Alley Police Department and thrown in one of the holding cells. "Let us out! Who are you?! Why did you bring us here?!" Johnny screamed as he shook the bars. "Give up Johnny," Mercinus said. "It's not doing any good." "Well we've got to get out of here," Johnny replied. "And we will," Mercinus said. "Give it time."
The door down the hall opened, and a few men walked in. They stopped in front of Johnny and Mercinus's cell. The two were astonished to see Rubbia standing with them. "They're friendly," Rubbia said to the men in red berets, who then opened the cell door to let the two out.
