This is not an assault rifle

Survivors searching gun stores in Malton are starting to find rifles, and ammunition.

There are two types of ranged weapons in Malton, the shotgun (high damage, heavy,) and the pistol (more of a "support" weapon.)

This suggestion suggests a rifle, similar to World War II weapons, such as the Lee-Enfield, the M1903 and the M1 Carbine. The rifle should ideally be between the shotgun and pistol in use and stats. For roleplaying reasons, the exact type of rifle won't be stated.

The rifle is semi-automatic, and has a clip of around 5 (exact number negotiable.) It costs 2AP to reload the rifle, to reflect that rifles are harder to load then pistols. Rifles themselves do eight damage on a hit, and six with a flak jacket. The accuracy of a rifle is 10%, and goes up with skills (explained later.)

A comparison table with the other main weapons (Accuracy is with all skills, and damage = without flak jacket/with flak jacket:)

Weapon Name Damage Accuracy Clip Size
Pistol 5/4 65% 6
Shotgun 10/8 65% 2
Axe 3/NA 40% NA
Rifle 8/6 70% 5

Just like the other weapons, the rifle goes up with the firearms skills. It has it's own tree, all XP costs are usual (75 military, 100 civilian, 150 scientist.)

Here is the tree (including Basic Firearms Training:)

  • Basic Firearms Training: +25% to hit (35% total.)
  • Rifle Training: +25% to hit (60% total.)
  • Advanced Rifle Training: +10% to hit (70% total.)

Headshot still takes effect with a rifle.

The rifle can be found in Mall Gun stores (4%/5%) and armories (2%.) It cannot be found in police departments to reflect that police usually don't use a rifle, but the military may for drills. Rifles (especially for hunting) are popular among civilians, hence the ability to find them in Mall Gun stores.

The clips can be found in Mall Gun stores (8%/11%) and armories (6%.) All search rates mirror those of the shotgun.

Finally, in armories, attachments can be found for rifles. The find rate is 2% for each-quite rare but not an impossible find. The attachments are:

A grenade launcher: Although all grenades were taken out by the military just after the outbreak, grenade launchers can still be occasionally found in armories. They can only be used to fire flares, however.

Ammunition-flares (simply taken out of a flare gun.)
Gives a +15% accuracy boost to flares, requires Basic Firearms Training to use (total accuracy-30%.)

A bayonet: Simply a knife that can be attached on the end of a rifle. No accuracy boost, still does two damage.

Allows you to carry a knife without having to carry it.

A scope: Gives a slight accuracy boost to the rifle, but a little more effort is required to fire it.

Gives a +10% accuracy boost to the rifle, requires 2AP to use.
Can also be found in Mall Gun Stores (2% find rate.)

All attachments can be attached to a rifle. It costs 10AP to attach an attachment. Attachments weigh 2%, but once on a rifle, they weigh nil.

Note that the attachments are highly experimental and probably won't make it to voting. Other then that, please comment on my talk page, while I think about this.
