Shade Lockhart was a simple firefighter when the zombies attacked. His wife and son were killed in the initial raids, when their house was destroyed by a massive horde and collapsed on top of them. Shade went half-insane from grief, and dedicated his life to destroying the zombie abominations.

After a while, he realised he'd never get anywhere on his own. After one hundred and eighty-three failed attempts, Shade managed to duplicate himself and created Shade184, whom he can control whenever he falls asleep.
