Diary Entry [Date: Does it matter? I've lost track.]

Zombies… They were just stories before the outbreak. Horror stories to tell your children to keep them tucked away at night. Used in old folk tales and for movies to entertain the masses. Now all what we heard about is reality.

They wander the streets, stalking their victims and consuming their prey once caught. The victims after a zombie onslaught hardly represent a human being, they are mutilated and their flesh torn apart… their bodies exposed in a gruesome display. If the corpses are not disposed and burned, they will rise again as a zombie… I remember once when this world was heaven, but compared to today… This is HELL.

I’m a survivor; I don’t wish to die… But sometimes I believe it’d be better than living in hell. I don’t know why, but I have a desire to live through this hell… So I shall and I will not give up hope no matter how bad the circumstances currently are.

I was a police officer prior to the outbreak - designated to serve and protect. I failed my duty. We were rallied up to contain the outbreak, but we failed miserably. Many of collogues fell to the initial defense of the city. We had failed to hold them off from entering the city suburbs of Pegton – many civilians died due to our failure and the military who were deployed failed too..

We were quick to retreat and attempt to create one last stand against the undead hordes which approached our newly formed perimeter at Dentonside. It was a police station which had been turned into a fortress for survivors to take refuge in – a safe heaven for them.

The fortress was breached after three days, chaos ensured throughout the building… People began to panic and break down the barricaded doors in an attempt to escape, which just allowed more access for the zombies. It was a massacre… I took up my weapon and managed to escape.

I was searching for my step sister a while after that incident. I successfully found her but I had to depart to look for other survivors and aid them to safety. That’s my job - I’m a police officer, I’m assigned to help the innocent. Many police officers who survived the outbreak gave up their job to serve the innocent and just attempt to survive now. Their status as an officer of the law does not even matter to them no longer, but I never gave up and still wish to fulfill my job and life duty.

I will save others.

I’m selfless.

I’m in a club building in Spracklingbank now after departing with my sister. I’m with 5 other survivors. We’ve barricaded the building and hope we do not attract zombie attention. We’ve turned off the power to stop the source of light, light seems to attract the undead.

I’ve decided to write this diary to keep myself occupied. Maybe this will keep me away from reaching insanity. Many others have fell into a state of craze over this outbreak.

Yesterday I killed a man… He was a known serial killer. Killers believe that because the chaos they have an open opportunity to carry out murders and get away with it due to the authority and the government have collapsed, and police officers have quit their job and simply attempt to survive, so no one can deal justice upon them for their crimes. But I’m a law enforcement officer and I’ll carry out my duty of justice still. I shot him repeatedly till he slumped down against the wall dead on the streets. A corpse for zombies to feast on… That’s all he’s worth… He’s nothing but murderer.

The screams of survivors being attacked since the outbreak was unleashed have begun to slow, maybe the zombies are finally managing to prevail.

Time to reload my weapons and coordinate a safe route to another location… I’m always on the move, that’s how my life is now. Amusing how after a single day the world can change.
