The Saga of MarieAntoinette (or How to Keep Your Head)

MarieAntoinette was born and raised in Kentucky. She met her husband in college and moved to Malton once married. The happy couple bought a house and settled into Hollomstown. It was there they raised two beautiful, adoring daughters. Before the quarantine, she was looking forward to retirement and spending time in her garden.

MarieAntoinette spent her career life working as a Necrotech Assisant. She had seen NT employees come and go. She was especially fond of the young pregnant women and had more than one baby named for her. She was gleeful when ultrasound pictures were shared. Often she would tell the expectant mothers in the lab to rest, and she would finish their work for them. When babies were born, she took food to the new mother's home so she could visit and advise. She was knowledgeable on the art of breastfeeding and getting the body back in shape after childbirth.

MarieAntoinette was well known in Malton for her great sense of humor. When her daughters were young, she was active in Girl Scouts and PTA. Others begged her to serve on committees for her tireless efforts and creativity. MarieAntoinette never missed church on Sunday. She had high morals and values, but she was nonjudgmental and forgiving when dealing with others. She had a special place in her heart for the poor and downtrodden. She taught French on Thursday evenings at the Goodwyn Museum.

After the quarantine in Malton, MarieAntoinette slipped into a state of deep depression. This was mostly brought on by worrying over younger co-workers. She knew what zombies could do; she had seen the mess they made in Kentucky in the 60s when she was a child. Most of her days were now spent staring out her bay window with nothing on but her housecoat. Her husband eventually left her. One of her daughters was busy helping out in the streets, only occasionally checking on her. Her daughter, virginialeigh, had joined forces with the military along with her "fiance." They begged MarieAntoinette to get out of bed and help in the city. But MarieAntoinette drew further into herself. She had grown dependent on conveniences - her stove, refigerator, mobile phone, and treasured Palm Pilot. All that had now changed.

One evening after she let her precious dogs out in the backyard to run around, MarieAntoinette listened in silence as zombies tortured and eventually killed her darlings. It was after that tragic and painful incident she decided, "Enough is enough." Having cried herself hoarse, she knew she could either take her own life or fight the evil running amok in Malton. That night she used her last box of L'Oreal hair color, ate her last bag of Cheetos, and made some coffee in the embers of the fireplace. She was up til 2 AM preparing for departure. In a special container she placed some Mary Kay cosmetics, a box of candles, a tin of hand-rolled cigarettes and lighter, and her Sacred Heart pin. She took all the keys from her Eiffel Tower keychain but one. It was the key to her home. She would place it in the container after she locked the door one last time. She laid her Necrotech jacket at the front door to be worn when she left.

Tomorrow would be different. Tomorrow was the first day of the rest of her life. With nothing left to live for but the possibility of joining forces with the Independent Contractors, MarieAntoinette laid down one last time in her heavenly bed and dreamed sweet dreams of victory. She knew Jesus was on her side.

Le Journal de Marie Antoinette

I left the house today. I am determined to turn this lemon into lemonade. The street was quiet and as I walked I could have sworn I heard a bird or two chirping. When I closed my eyes I could remember what this neighborhood was like before the quarantine. But the stench, the smell or rotting flesh, brought me back to reality. The rubble in the street was unbelievable. I clutched my container and walked as though I knew where I was going. Where will I stay tonight? Do I dare pin my Sacred Heart to my chest? I'm hoping my Necrotech jacket offers some sense of importance. Of course the Sacred Heart may be an invitation to some to harm me. And zombies don't care how important one is...

This week I became the Building Manager for Collis Towers in Tollytown. I made new friends in that suburb and they encouraged me to take the plunge. Hopefully our radio station will find a permanent home there. Team Enlightenment has asked to use the fourth floor for headquarters. I've obtained a McZeds franchise and construction began today in the courtyard atrium. I've been through so much the last three months. I'm ready to survive this madness.

NOVEMBER 2007

I have fallen in love in Malton! Lurken, a hero of Paradox, is my suitor and darling. Maybe there is something to live for after all.

DECEMBER 2007

Cold and snowy - But I'm sitting by the fire with Lurken and zombieslayer. I've learned to make zombie stew (tastes like chicken) and the champagne seems endless. Little Candy Girl, lil bit, Catwoman, and Little Half Pint help with cooking and cleaning and pretty much do my bidding. Team Enlightenment still have their headquarters at The Collis. We are smoking candy canes from sheer cabin fever.

25 January 2008

I am deliriously happy. Drama Club performed Apocalypse Now: Death of Kurtz at Collis Towers today. The room was packed with friends and oterh survivors. We are still psrtying.
