There are a number of times in Urban Dead that you can select a target - for example when attacking or healing. Targets are given in a dropdown list, and include things like other survivors and zombies present as well as sometimes things like barricades and generators. When a contact is present whether alive, dead, undead or reviving, the target is shown in target lists as bold and coloured according to the colour given in the contacts list.
Survivors as Targets
Survivors present in the block are always in target lists, displayed in stack order. When there are 50 or more survivors, the "[list names]" link to map.cgi?zoom is shown in the location description. As well as this when there are specifically over 50 survivors then in target lists the lines [ ... click 'list, names' to interact, with others ... ] are added after 50 survivors, and are followed by the last 25 survivors in the stack, unless there are 75 or fewer survivors in the crowd, when all except the 51st survivor is placed on the list - as at least one survivor is always hidden by these lines. When all survivors are displayed, then these lines are removed from the target lists and all survivors are present in the list.
Contacts as Targets
Any character in the Contacts List is shown as a target, whether alive as a survivor, undead as a zombie, dead (after losing all HP) or reviving (after being revived), unless they are inactive and so won't be displayed at all. Each contact is either given a colour (grey by default) or is ignored (and coloured with #787). All of these contacts are shown in the target lists as bold and coloured as they are in the contacts list. This is the only way that dead, undead or revivifying characters can be specifically targetted.
Target Lists
Attacks Target List: Shown when alive or undead before the attack method list. If any of the following are present, it lists them in the following order: 'a zombie', Survivors, Dead Undead or Reviving Contacts, Barricades, Generator, Radio, Christmas Trees, Christmas Lights. Note that dead or reviving bodies can't be attacked even though they are in the target list.
First Aid Kit: Shown after each FAK in the inventory. If any of the following are present, it lists them in the following order: 'a zombie', Survivors, Dead Undead or Reviving Contacts, Christmas Trees, Christmas Lights. Note that only zombies and survivors can be healed.
DNA Extractor Shown after each DNA Extractor in the inventory. If any of the following are present, it lists them in the following order: 'a zombie', Survivors, Dead Undead or Reviving Contacts, Christmas Trees, Christmas Lights. Note that only standing zombies can have their DNA extracted.
NecroTech Syringe Shown after each Syringe in the inventory. If any of the following are present, it lists them in the following order: 'a zombie', Survivors, Dead Undead or Reviving Contacts, Christmas Trees, Christmas Lights. Note that only standing zombies can be revived.
Stale Candy Shown after any Candy in the inventory. If any of the following are present, it lists them in the following order: 'a zombie', Survivors, Dead Undead or Reviving Contacts, Christmas Trees, Christmas Lights.
Flailing Gesture Shown when a zombie with Flailing Gesture. If any of the following are present, it uses the Flailing Gesture codes and lists them in the following order: 'yourself', Adjacent locations (left to right, top to bottom), Directions, 'the sky', 'the ground', 'the survivors', Survivors, Dead Undead or Reviving Contacts, 'a zombie', Generator, Radio, Christmas Tree, Christmas Lights.
