It is functionally equivalent to a street, except that players with the Tagging skill can gain 2 XP for writing graffiti on a monument. This is, game-play wise, an empty block, and cannot be barricaded. After the July 3, 2009 update, some monuments became tall and can be seen from a distance with binoculars

The Potter Monument

Description

Humans and zombies alike will see the following (permanent) description when standing in front of the monument:

"You are at the Potter Monument, a granite cube that leans to one side."

A bronze statue of Barry Potter, erected shortly before the outbreak. Fictional boy-wizard Potter is portrayed standing proud, with his stiff foot-long wand held firmly in front of him: an icon many teenage boys identified with, and many brainless girls swooned in front of.

The statue was carved out of butter before being cast in bronze. The accompanying owl sculpture was abandoned due to budgetary considerations.

History

The Monument was intended to mark the publication of the final attempt to cash in on Pottermania, Barry Potter and the Bulldog of Doom, in which college-age student Potter falls foul of Hogsbridge University for casting the Cannabis Maximus in Atticus Secretus spell, as well as getting Hermione pregnant after the Hogsbridge Ball.

A scene from the book was set at the famous St Aelred's Church, to the south of the Monument's location, and the author, JK Dowling, was guest of honour at the unveiling. A midnight signing session of the new book was also scheduled, to be attended by thousands of Malton's pre-teen population.

Sadly for Foulkes Village, the local councillor inadvertently gave away the ending of the book during his introduction to Ms Dowling, who promptly stormed off to her limo. Barry Potter sales slumped in favour of teen vampire fiction, and Dowling never visited Malton again. However, brainless boys and girls continue to flock to the Monument, moaning for Barrah Bazzargh.
