==A Malton Recession?==
'''By Private Mendoza, June 05, 2008'''
The latest news I've been hearing from around the bar, in dark alleys, and during the increasing random muggings (Please stop!) is this rumor of how Malton is in an economic recession. After much research, and numerous Post-Apocalyptic Government funded-studies, the accusations are seemingly true, and the main causes have been released.
Historic depletions of weapon reservoirs, the influx of cheap illegal Dead labor, Urban Dying, lack of safe-working conditions, sup-prime mortgages, shoddy barricade contractors, and PKer terrorism are just a few of the problems being blamed. The problem is obvious in the hardest hit pockets of survivors as the value of Cheese has been weakened by inflation while the Barhah Union currency, Brains, is rising in value. Consequently, generator prices are up, barricade materials are hard to find in the less-populated parts of the city, weapons cost twice as much as in the BU, and even the usually well-off zombie-stripper industry is suffering.
The Urban Dying crisis is a major factor. Of course Bullets are the most effective way to dispatch a zombie, but the urban supply is dwindling and AP cost is up. The eco(nomy)-minded survivor might want to convert to renewable resources, such as axes and knives, but they are still riddled with major problems like low accuracy, and low damage.
The recession doesn't seem to be showing any signs of slowing, so start saving that hard-earned Cheese. Hopefully our city’s leadership can come up with some sort of plan to combat the crisis.

This is a collection of old gossips from the old Fortress years.

Goodbye Roci Ara

  • This article was written on April 15, 2007

Everyone in the Fortress knows her name. The Fortress is forced to see a living legend leave. Roci Ara announced this week that she had to retire. Roci has been in Malton for a year and a half. Her past is unknown though some know about it. She has done it all from Cold Cell Lt. to Shadow Wolf to Fortress Four Commander. I know I can speak for everyone in the Fortress when I say that she wil be missed dearly.

The Biggest April Fools Day Joke Ever

  • This article was written on April 2,2007

Yesterday was April Fools Day as we all know. First we log on to Kevan's littel joke on us. Well us at the Fortress had some jokes too. The most obvious was that Jensonson put on the latest news scroller that Urban Dead was going to become a game for the Next gen consoles. Well yesterday Roci Ara got us all good. She showed us, what looked like a wedding invitation. We were all so happy for her we forgot what day it was. Roci edited her post to include a link that said the proverb on the said invitation was in Finnish and half of us do not know any Finnish but anyways it said April Fools. Roci Ara we salute you in your cleverness.

Creation of Team Dark Watch

Early this month, it was announced that a new team was to be added to The Fortress roster.

The name would be chosen by a vote. There was a tie between Dreadnaught and Dark Watch. The new commander was to choose the name.

Many people applied for the new position of commander. The Fortress team commanders of the existing 3 combat teams made the decision about the roster changes. The commander was to be chosen by the Fortress council, and after much deliberation, NuAgeTechno was announced as the new commander. He wasted no time getting to work; his first historic decision was to decide upon the name of the new team. He decided upon Dark Watch.

The team roster upon creation:

Commander: NuAgeTechno

Lieutenant: Studz

Assault Officer: Guard33x

Battalion Ranger: Carrll

Conflict Trooper: Perrin the Wolf

Deployment Squaddie: Hogan's Hero

General Enforcement: Rellik666

Upon writing this article I thought it would be good to get an interview with the dark watch commander. This is what happened.

1. NuAgeTechno, you are the new and first commander of Team Dark Watch. How does it feel to be a big part in what will be the history of The Fortress?
A: being a part of the essential history of the Fortress feels like quite the achievement. I am very pleased, with myself and my new team.
2. Also you have made history by deciding upon the name of the new team. What made you decide upon Dark Watch?
A: The name came to me as I created a list of potential names. When we had the name poll, I was excited to see Dark Watch on the list. When I was also chosen as new commander, the choice was obvious.
3. Your new team consists of some from the other three battle groups. How do they feel being moved to another group?
A: I feel some miss their old commanders, but I also know they will be pleased with me.
4. Finally NuAge. Can we have a sneaky hint on what your first mission will be?
A: Nope

And there we have it. Everything you need to know about The Fortress's new combat team. Three cheers for team Dark Watch.

Charlie Mon PK scandal

  • This article was written in Nov 13, 2006

On October 25th, a message by Commander Charlie Mon of Team Cold Cell appeared on the Fortress' forums titled "Apology to the Fortress", explaining that he had preemptively PKed a player named Hobo Killer whom he'd observed committing several acts of murder in Carder Row School. Identifying him as a threat to other survivors, and possibly to the members of the Fortress, Charlie killed Hobo Killer and was added to the Resensitized PK list as a result. Charlie stated that the Fortress Council was deliberating on his punishment because his actions were against the Fortress' PK laws, and that he had apologized to Hobo Killer on the Resens board, both publicly and via PM. He concluded by stating that he was now apologizing to his fellow Fortress members.

Reaction from his fellow Fortress members was mixed. There were several people posting in unequivocal support of Charlie's actions and who urged the Council to consider either very light punishment or none at all for Charlie. These statements included:

"Hey man, I know what it feels like to be at what feels like the right end of an APK, and then be told you were totally wrong. It happens, I only hope the council will see lightly on you, as they should."
"If you get punished then they'll have to go through me."
"I stand with Charlie. What he did was right. If he takes his punishment, so will I."

In reaction to the incendiary tone of some of these statements, others posted in reply to remind everyone that the PK laws had been crafted by a Council that was elected through popular vote, and that while the members were personally supportive of Charlie, they were not supportive of his actions which were clearly against the PK laws which Charlie Mon had voted in himself as a member of the Fortress Council. These replies were also encouraged by the calls for "rebellion", also discussed during the Shadow Revolution, and included statements such as:

"You people chose your council members to represent you. They have. So either ask your council to consider changing the PK law or shut up and respect the fact that they put a LOT of thought into constructing the law the way they did and it's there for a reason..."
"The current PK law was drawn up and approved by the people you elected into office (including Charlie). It is fair and reflects the philosophy of the Fortress. Just because a popular member of the Fortress decided to break the rules doesn’t mean the laws are wrong..."
"Charlie is a commander, and should show better example to the troops, some people said. But how safe do you really feel when PKing is going on inside your own HQ? But if the council chose to condemn him, its their decision. Just because you don't like a decision they made doesn't mean you go over your heads and rebel against it. You guys elected these people, remember that now. You elected them to make new additions/revisions the current laws. Now that they are going to do something you don't like, (such as condemning Charlie) your going to disobey them and create a racket? The shadow debate was legitimate, but this is just childish..."

Within the next couple of days, Charlie's sentence was issued. He was expelled from the Council and slapped with a 10-day demotion from his position as Commander of Team Cold Cell to be spent with Drill Sergeant Rendr in Boot Camp. Charlie accepted his punishment gracefully and began serving out his demotion without protest, with Lt. Cameron Mitchell taking over as temporary CO of Team Cold Cell. In the meantime, the debate about the appropriateness of the PK laws raged on.

In many ways, the points raised by both sides were the same ones which had been raised during previous PK-related discussions. One side agitates for a relaxation of what they see as the restrictive and slow-reacting nature of the PK laws; the other side maintains that the PK laws, created and enacted by the duly elected Council, are intended to protect its members and reflect of the beliefs of the kind of organization that the Fortress strives to be. The question of changing the PK laws became a key platform in the election for a Councilor to replace Charlie Mon.

In the end, Charlie completed his punishment and was restored to his place as leader of Team Cold Cell. Jensonson, Head of the Fortress closed the subject with a final statement:

"...it's a pity that some members aren't keen on the way that our PK laws have effected the case of Charlie Mon but the laws work both ways - for The Fortress' members and against The Fortress members. If we break the rules, we need to pay the penalty. It's interesting to see the differing reactions of how we responded to the PKing by Charlie Mon, and the PKing by Adam11's group last month. They also claimed that it was a reasoned PKing of a confirmed PKer yet many members wanted the group shut down. The law is there to be applied to everyone and not just to those that we don't know..."

The forceful arguments and passionate declarations expressed by the Fortress' members on this issue created heated debates, but the Fortress wasn't shaken, continuing proof of the sturdiness of the Fortress.

New Fortress Councillor voted in Nov 6

  • This article was written by Danny Lee.

after the Charlie Mon PK scandel there was a vacent seat in the council, and it needed to be filled. Many applied, and heated debates and speeches arose, ranging from PK laws, combat teams, and even talks about the 2nd generations of the fortress. The 2nd generation is an unofficial term for members who graduated boot camp shorty before/after the Fortress party.

The following are the results of the votes and short summary of each candidates. The winner's name is in bold...

Daniel181 [ 0 ] - A member of The Fortress, he is currently a scout for team Anaconda. Highly enthusiastic.

Danny Lee [ 9 ] - One of the favorites in the election, he tried to win people over with elaborate speeches and rebuttals to other candidate's speeches/comments. He is currently the commander of team Anaconda, and the new member of the council.

Duke Ulrich [ 1 ] - A highly dedicated member of team Battlehawk.

Fishel [ 7 ] - One of the favorites in the election, he was the past commander of team Cold Cell. He is full of humor, charisma and dedication. His support bases didn't soar high during the beginning, but steadily rose in popularity at the end. He is a veteran member.

Jack Patient [ 7 ] - One of the favorites in the election, he is a highly likable member of team Battlehawk. He had a strong support bases, especially asthe election wore on. He is also an editor in the TFN. (Which you are reading, right now.)

Necrotic Hunter [ 6 ] - One of the favorites in the elction, he had a strong start with his anti PKer sentiments of zero tolerance, but lost steam as the rebuttals mounted, and the election wore on.

NuAgeTechno [ 2 ] - A true veteran of The Fortress, he is a member of the Assault squadron, and passionate about the Fortress' future. It is extremely unlucky that his campaign plan didn't catch on.

After being accepted, Danny Lee gave his victory speech.

"Thank you. Thank you all who voted for me and also to those who voted against me. Ever since the council has been formed, I wished to join them in their high throne of power, not to quench my own lust for power, but to serve the Fortress the best way I can. I've run 3 times so far, and like they said, "Third times the charm"."

Now the Fortress party is over and there have been new Fortress Council members elected. The election was a close one. Won with 26 votes, was Battlehawk Commander Shrimper. Second, coming in with 20 votes, was Grey Shadow Prophet Blackops. Tied with 17 votes apiece were Drill Sergeant Rendr and Charlie Mon.

Not far behind them was Fishel with 16 votes. Trailing Fishel by 4 votes was Assault Squadron Officer NuAgeTechno. Tied with 8 votes were Duke Ulrich and Derivator. Finally, with 6 votes was Fortress Reporter Danny Lee. The new Councillors will aid Veteran Councillor Cameron Mitchell, and The Fortress will continue to grow.

Pitman Crashes Fortress Party

This article was written by Charlie Mon. This article was written on September 20, 2006.

Today the Fortress is one year old. Old friends as well as enemies are reunited. Last night Jensonson's arch nemesis Lord Pitman and his cronie Baron Von Evil crashed this party and killed The Fortress Head. He even took mind control over Jensonson to kill Anaconda Commander Shrimper. Shrimper killed Lord Pitman, but Pitman came back until he was killed by ex commander of Anaconda, Deathaxe.

Another shocking result of this event was that Bensonson, the brother of Jensonson, attacked and killed his brainwashed brother as all of the Fortress watched.

Even through all this, our understanding leader welcomed back Shadows Bensonson, Fet and LePaige with open arms. Why? Nobody knows. But despite Pitman's experimentation, we all still seem to trust Jensonson's decisions. He is, after all, The Head. The Party is now under control and everyone is having an excellent time.

I am reporting this on behalf of a friend. He was PKed today by two members of Fortress, accused of being a PKer, and a member of Red Rum. No bounty on him. No PK reports. Member of red rum? he does post on thier site, but if he's a member theres no evidence to warrant a PKing. Unless they got a list of thier members from an inside source.

Jensonson has issued a statement regarding this affair. Please give him some time to learn from this experience and to improve. He has done some great work for The Fortress and will want to put this nasty experience behind him.

Monkeys taking over the world???

This article was written by danny lee

This article was written in September 7, 2006

This just in... monkeys taking over world... they are now trying to take over all positions of power.... several countries have tried to fight them but they are just too cute... we're doomed.....

With that message mysteriously appearing over The Fortress scroll bar, a humorous, yet weird discussion started. Some members deny the monkeys plot, some even deny the existance of monkeys. Fortress member Guard33x tried brainwashing using Jedi mind tricks, revealing himself to be a Star Wars nerd.

"*Waves hand* You all did not see this happen; everything is normal and under control; monkeys have not taken over the world and this is not a Jedi mind trick.........."

"There are no monkeys," some members murmured, but it was found that they were fine and were playing along.

Veteran member Shrimper admitted that

"Monkeys taking over the world would have its advantages, for a start public masturbation would be legal.

Also my large, red bottom would be fashionable."

Due to lack of monkeys in Malton, it seems that this is all a trick, but sources say that the mice might make their attack. The reign of cats might be over. More on this story as it unfolds.

A Malton Recession?

By Private Mendoza, June 05, 2008
