History

Trezise Library was opened in 1972 as a state library for civic records. It also held education programs for bookkeeping, sonography and civic administration, as well as a literacy program for underprivileged youth in Edgecombe.

Trezise is also the location of the 1982 Worker's Strike. The strike was related to nearby factory workers' leave rights, and lasted 6 weeks, ending in the June 10 riot. Casualties included the death of five riot officers and twenty protesters, with several more injured. Following the riot, the parties agreed to end the strike on undisclosed terms. The leader of the union and organiser of the strike, Ceily O'Malley, was mysteriously found dead behind the nearby Podger Hotel.
