Urban Dead is in its final days as I write this. Nearly two decades of fierce struggle will soon be over. While I still can, I want to provide somewhat of a postmortem for the characters I played, even if there will be no one left to read it.

TripleU

Created 2008-08-24, Final XP: 16,000+

TripleU was my original character from when I was first discovering Urban Dead. He wandered aimlessly as a survivor for some months until I discovered the light of barhah and fully embraced death. From that early point, I found my reason for playing Urban Dead: advancing the zombie cause. All my characters would, forevermore, be solely devoted the that driving purpose. TripleU wandered into Wyke Hills, where, in a sea of heavy barricades, he found easy prey in the rot revive clinic at the Wicksted Building. He would spend the rest of his unlife making a nuisance of himself in this area. At times he associated with the local group Annus Horribilis, even serving as a second-in-command to Lady Clitoria's character named Annus Horribilis. He developed a strong, gentlemanly respect for the survivors he fought against, particularly the Wulves, and their leader, Belisarius17's character scouteric. When the end came, TripleU decided to make peace with his longtime foes and spend his final days with them in the Wolfendall Arms.

Edwin McCloud

Created 2009-02-14, Final XP: 3,000+

Edwin McCloud was the first of my secret characters. I knew I wanted him to operate as a pro-zombie survivor, so I have, until today, refrained from revealing his identity and exposing him to bounty hunters. He served variously has a PKer, GKer, and general troublemaker, but he never really settled into one specific methodology. Edwin faced oblivion the same way he faced life; with no friends, with no direction, with nothing but a desire to spread his frustration like a contagion.

Mold Man

Created 2009-03-26, Final XP: 15,000+

Mold Man was a zealous barhah fundamentalist and fully committed rotter. He passionately believed in the teachings of the Prophet of True Barhah, Jorm's character jorm. On the rare occasion Mold Man suffered revivification, he always made a beeline for a high window. He never took any survivor skills, and he never carried a single item. At times he traveled with the Militant Order of Barhah, and at times he traveled with whatever Mall Tour or Big Bash was roaming the city. He always held a grudge against the survivors who participated in the escape attempt of 2010; the audacity of survivors to hope for salvation offended him more than anything else they could do. When the end came, he returned to Ellicott Place Railway Station, where he stood guard to ensure no stragglers could slip out of Malton at the last minute. To Mold Man, the extermination of Malton's survivor population must be total.

John Sparkman

Created 2009-05-26, Final XP: ~100

John Sparkman was my most secret character; His contributions to the zombie cause were limited to what he could do unnoticed. He destroyed countless generators, overbarricaded numerous entry points to HB+0, and, most importantly, spread pro-zombie propaganda extremely prolifically. Over the years, He accumulated an enormous collection of spraypaining messages and radio addresses which he distributed across the city. Some of this was his own original content, but much of it was repurposed from other sources, including from his role model, MHSstaff. Veteran players may find some of John's material familiar. If he brought even one person to understand the light of barhah, than his many years of work were worth it.

SlNlSTAR

Created 2010-07-21, Final XP: 2,000+

SlNlSTAR was an open PKer, and somewhat of a gimmick character. His modus operandi was to kill survivors after shouting his mix of one-liners (eg "I am Sinistar! I hunger! Run, coward!"). In the latter part of his career, SlNlSTAR began to wear the tags of the most prominent PKer group, albeit without coordinating with them.

A Maggot

Created 2010-07-29, Final XP: 6,000+

A Maggot was my Ridley; He served in the Ridleybank Resistance Front for his entire career. He served in the Barhahville Constabulary strike team when it was led by Papa Irishmen's character Necro21689. After his strike team days, A Maggot cleared many a barricade from the sunny streets of Ridleybank.

Boris Ormrod

Created 2011-10-30, Final XP: ~100

Boris Ormrod was my first temporary character. I missed out on the Monroeville and Borehamwood quarantines, but I was fascinated by their permadeath mechanic. To experience something similar, I created Boris as a survivor devoted to remaining alive, with a commitment to abandon the character when he first died. He hid in EHB buildings in green suburbs, reaching level 14 before a random zombie happened to find him.

Crystal Harrak

Created 2013-10-14, Final XP: ~100

Crystal Harrak was my second temporary character, created following Boris's death. I was dissatisfied with the uneventfulness of Boris' life and the randomness of his death, and I planned Crystal to correct this by giving her a much more risk-tolerant attitude. When she discovered a violent cult named Jerden Rules Crowbank, she gave herself to the megalomaniacal leader, Jerden's character Jerden. Given the crowd she fell in with, it was unsurprising that she only made it to level 4 before a rival survivor gunned her down.

Likho Psoglav

Created 2024-06-20, Final XP: ~100

Likho Psoglav was a late addition I made after a second round of donation. An unreasonable zombie ate one of his eyes, leaving him with no death perception and a tendency to mistakenly shoot survivors instead of zombies. He spent most of his short time as a zombie defending the Purt Building in zombie-held territory.

Bobby Granola

Created 2024-07-10, Final XP ~100

Bobby Granola was another late addition. He wore the tags of the Malton DEA, and fought his own private drug war in southwest Malton. When the end came, he shambled into Brain Boulevard Railway Station to go out alongside the Brain Conductors.

"I was there, in the end, when it all went dark..."

TripleU was still active when the city of Malton went dark for the last time
as the quarantine ended on March 14, 2025, after the city fought to survive for nearly two decades.
