This is another formal request for Kevan to update the MediaWiki software that is the backbone of the Urban Dead Wiki. As it stands, the MediaWiki software is over two years old. We are running version 1.9.3, this policy requests that Kevan updates the wiki to the current (stable) version, 1.15.4.

This new release has a few years worth of bugfixes and new features, such as expiry dates on page protections, finer control over permissions, ability to merge page histories and image undeletion to be enabled by default. There are likely more features that I have missed.

It is also requested, that in the event of a software update that the following is done:

  • That the Semi-protection policy is implemented
  • That the extension Special Namespaces is installed. This will allow sysops to create namespaces without having to fiddle with the servers. Requests for the creation of a namespace will be done though Policy Discussion.
  • It is also requested that the pseudo-namespace Guides: is turned into a proper namespace. This can be done though installation of the extension above (which would allow a sysop to create the namespace,) or manually by Kevan.
  • It would also be appreciated if the CheckUser extension is updated.
