Seen after losing a bet back home in Boston, MA, Richard Long was a volunteer firefighter. After hearing reports of the outbreak in Malton, he volunteered to assist in fighting the fires that plagued the city, and to assist in the evacuation of the living. After the first few weeks, the endeavor was deemed futile, and he was ordered to evacuate the city, but on his way to the dustoff site, he and his crew were pinned down by a small horde of zombies, and were forced to attempt to beat back the dead. Out of his crew, all that remained were him and his trusty axe, Veera. After months of fighting for his life in the city, he met up with a group of survivors who called themselves "Axes High".
