Hello! Several years ago a statistical study was done that showed that usage of [[Template:Welcomenewbie]] or other templated welcome messages significantly decreased the retention rate of new members. Having a brief, personalized message, greeting the person, providing a link to a friendly talk page and maybe mentioning how to sign (if the person has been signing DRs or talk pages incorrectly) has the highest retention rate. | |||
