History
The Methodius General Hospital was built in 1889, and is named after Saint Methodius who was a Byzantine Greek scholar, archbishop of Great Moravia, and the main translator of the Bible into Old Church Slavonic using the Glagolitic alphabet created by his brother and collaborator Saint Cyril.
The hospital is built from large yellow-stone, and the photo here shows the rear of the building. At the front entrance there is a fountain which is quite unusual in having a centerpiece of figurines dancing around a crocodile. Sadly, the fountain has become quite weathered and smoke blackened in recent years.
Before the outbreak, the building suffered an electrical fault which caused a major fire. Although no one was killed, the fire burnt out most of the rooms, and unfortunately the majority of the damage wasn't repaired before the initial outbreak.
