Character Background
Born in November, 1971, Dean Stephen Osler Hamilton came from an upper class family, the Hamiltons known for being both vested in the medical field and for having large shares in local booming industries. Born abroad in Ontario during a business trip to parents Dr George Harold Hamilton and clinical nurse manager Elizabeth Wells Hamilton, and raised in Rhodenbank at the family estate. Alumni of ICSM, he was chief of medicine and a prominent physician at St. Helier's Hospital before the Outbreak. Initially staying behind to help the sick and wounded, he signed on with the Malton Emergency Medical Service, working with doctors and EMTs to organize quarantine stations and heal the survivors.
Several months he worked with the group, striving to make a difference, before becoming jaded in the aftermath of the subsequent destruction. He resigned from medical practice, took up self-dosing of laudanum, and began separating himself from others. For some time, Dr Hamilton hid from his troubles and the infection, only fighting it when he had no other choice. These dark months were blurred with depression and when the laudanum became scarce, alcoholism. It was in a dark pub that Dean first witnessed the brutal slaying of an innocent survivor by one of the rogue elements of the new, post-infection Malton. Some hidden spark of humanity left flared to life, and in righteous fury he gunned the murderer down . The smoke from his pistol mingled with the smoke of his pipe, and from that point on he realized his new life and duty would be to bring justice to Malton, hoping that bullets could heal what medicine could not in this strange new world.
