Chapter 1
Crew Avenue Police Department

"When the outbreak took the city by surprise, I was at one of the hardware stores looking for a special part to replace on one of my tools so I could fix up my dirt bike. The quarantine happened so fast that I wasn't even able to leave the suburb before the entire city was in lock down. My truck was bogged down in traffic and so I decided to leave it and hike it from there." Rufus started. "I made my way around for a couple days before finding Foulkes Village. The local militia, Crew Avenue Police Department, which was made of law abiding citizens and pre-quarantine police officers, were nice people and offered me a place amongst their group to help protect others. I joined and soon made a few friends. Sid James Jr. was soon enough my best friend; who I still talk to to this day.

"I still remember working with those guys to keep that suburb safe for others, reviving those who were unlucky and fighting that self cloning freak, Spandrell and Spandrella. People flocked from all parts of the city to stay safe under our protection. Stopping murderers, criminals, and zombies all in one day. Coming into buildings that had been ransacked by zeds guns and needles a blazing. We were a force to be reckoned with." He says seeming to reminisce on the good times.

"Well it says here on the records that you left the CAPD. Can you tell me why?" I inquire trying to get as much out as I could.

"Well," He starts thinking on how to word his sentence, "Sid was promoted faster than I was. I was just a helper; always would be. Never could actually lead people well. He became acting captain after Captain Smithers left for a while. He held a contest to help clear out the area of murderers and criminals, to help raise moral and recruit some of the younger or inexperienced survivors in the area. We all did amazingly, keeping the area clear and keeping it clear for weeks after since no one wanted to risk sleeping in our suburbs.

"Then Sid resigned. He said he couldn't take being the leader anymore. Too hard for him to keep his head straight. So the next guy to step in called Sid's work 'witch hunting' and said that is not the way the group is going to be headed. I always thought it was to serve and protect. I had it out with the new captain, storming out and not looking back.

"I had friends in a group called the DSS Red Zone Support. They accepted me and we went and kicked some major ass." He said finishing his story with a smile.
