Rufus Vanzant/Prologue/Chapter 1/Chapter 2
A Day In Malton
Prologue

The story of many have been heard about the horrors that occurred inside of the secluded city of Malton. Many different sides of stories. From those of the murderers to the stories of men who once were zombies for months or years at a time. Many people have told their story about their day to day survival. It is hard to think many people would have the mental strength to survive such hell.

I met a man named Rufus Vanzant, who said he lived through years of conflict inside the walls of Malton. Between being a cop, a suicide reviver, a murderer, and a zombie, this man has seen a lot of stories through a lot of different eyes. Rufus has had a long transition through the ranks and personalities of a survivor in Malton.

Rufus now works at a police station in Kevan River City, living with his family again, and working through therapy to be able to deal with the memories. A strong individual to be able to recover so quickly.

I made my way to the Kevan River City Police Department to start my interview with Rufus. I stopped before ascending the 14 steps up to the police department and took in the natural beauty of the building. It was a few stories tall and was completely made of white stone. The steps were perfect and the hand railing was shiny and new. All of the cars parked out front were new and in amazing condition. The doors had shiny silver handles and the cleanest glass I had ever seen.

Once I stepped inside, there was a very large reception desk made of beautifully colored wood. The receptionist looked up to let me know that he would get to me once he was done with the phone call. From what I gathered, one of the officers in the office needed something from him. Once he hung up the phone, he turned to me and said "May I help you, sir?"

I told him that I was here to speak to Rufus, that I had an appointment with him. He called Rufus who let me through to see him. Rufus had already changed into his civilian cloths, which he told me was because he had just returned from some undercover work of trying to stop drug dealers before they could receive a large shipment at the docks.

Rufus asked me to take a seat as he seated himself behind the desk. He just watched as I pulled some things from my bag: a recorder, a pen and a notebook. I looked to him before I started the tape recorder and asked "Would it be okay if I recorder the conversation so that I may be able to get every detail and be able to capture the emotion of some of the instances?"

"Not at all, though you may have to follow me to step outside for a cigarette. I know a dirty habit, but it helps with the stress." He replies.

"Not a problem," I chuckle as I show him my pack of cigarettes.
