FoD Recruitment Ad?

May I ask what the issue with the Flowers of Disease recruitment AD was that it was summarily deleted by yourself?

Please timestamp comments on this page. Your ad was deleted because the timestamp on it was over 2 weeks old. - W 16:43, 14 March 2008 (UTC)
Sorry about the timestamp here. Anyways, so you guys delete every two weeks? I guess I missed that. So if I go and timestamp the AD every 2 weeks, we'll be ok? --Hibernaculum 22:11, 14 March 2008 (UTC)
Yeah, every two weeks. So just keep updating the timestamp every two weeks and it will remain on the page. - W 22:12, 14 March 2008 (UTC)
That add has been up there for half a year now and all of a sudden it's too wide? I grow tired of your attacks on my groups ad. I wish to speak to a moderator, someone higher up then you to report you for wiki vandalism. This is nonsense. I see ads up there much wider than mine was and they are never harrassed. --Hibernaculum 14:57, 14 September 2008 (BST)

Wheres the talk page?

Where is the talk page? Zahn 02:12, 24 February 2008 (UTC)

You seem to have found it on your own (Category_talk:Recruitment), and I answered your question over there. Any further questions then don't hesitate to ask. Though Bullgod seems to have offered to help and has written a guide that should make it easy to understand. - W 14:29, 24 February 2008 (UTC)

G.I.F.D. Recruitment Ad

Seeing as how you seem to be the janitor of the page i'll bring this to you. the G.I.F.D. recruitment ad is screwing up the page. Orginally it was screwing all the ads below it with only a picture showing here and there off to the right. Having recently added a recruitment, that had to go beneath, it switched to screwing only the ad below it, by making it not show completly, although the rest turned out ok. I put up a temp. fix until you get there (Ad - "Sysop, please take care of this! : Type") which is taking the heat off all the other ads, but of course leaves a large space and a spot on the recruitment list. Figured I'ed bring this to your attention.--Zach016 01:39, 15 February 2008 (UTC)

Fixed it... at first I couldn't see it. Turns out it was a bug happening in IE and not Firefox. Anyway, they had forgotten to close a tag on their ad, but it should be fine now. - W 20:43, 15 February 2008 (UTC)
Thanks. I have forgotten to close my recruitment board. Sorry Zach016 --Zyll GIFD Francais 10:39, 17 February 2008 (UTC)

Cockburn Plaza Railway Station

Now,

I can see why some people may think that the history section wasn't really accurate, but honestly, couldn't you have at least replaced the section with your own ideas, or changed it slightly or basically anything besides deleting the entire thing without contributing yourself. Surely having the page with some kind of flavour on it is better than it becoming yet another stub on the wiki. I really feel that my writing could have stayed, in the name of making the wiki a more interesting place to navigate and giving locations a bit of atmosphere rather than a page with nothing but subheadings. Some people may have even got a laugh out of it, who knows? Places like this lend themselves to creative descriptions and histories like the one you deleted.

Now don't get me wrong, I don't want to get into an edit war that gets taken to arbitration or some crap, but I don't appreciate my efforts being off-handedly wiped without explanation like that. This is why I am appealing to you directly instead of simply adding it back on without explanation. Please get back to me ASAP.--Nick 06:18, 27 January 2008 (UTC)

This seems strangely familiar. Urban Dictionary really has no place in a community which includes children, and Urban Dead is such a community.--Karekmaps?! 07:41, 27 January 2008 (UTC)
I've removed the link to urbandictionary. Without the link i can't imagine anyone under the age of 10 would understand or care for the contents of the page. Whitehouse, if you have a problem feel free to edit however DO NOT simply remove the entire text.--Jed 07:50, 27 January 2008 (UTC)
I removed it because I don't believe that crap belongs on the wiki, the link is not the only silly part, the whole text is, and in a way which is not funny. Obviously I would have contributed more by adding my own text to make the history section more interesting, but I didn't and I have no reason other than I haven't got any idea about what to write. - W 12:29, 27 January 2008 (UTC)
Well karek seems to agree with you, so i guess this will be discussed over a nice hot cup of cocoa--Jed 14:01, 27 January 2008 (UTC)

Use Caution

I am curious as to why you deleted the Malton Order of Priests recruitment link on the groups page...Perhaps you can tell me why you felt this necessary?--Chaplain Drakon Macar 07:25, 2 February 2008 (UTC)

Read the rules of the page, which are meant to be read before posting an ad. They will clearly detail why your ad was removed, I have even detected further faults since yesterday. In fact, I will explain in full what is wrong with your ad:
  1. You had text on the recruitment page, not in your called page (you had used your called page so this should have been obvious to you).
  2. You had an image on threcruitment page, once again it should have been on the called page.
  3. I have noticed you used a level 2 header on your called page, no headers are allowed on the called page.
That is what is wrong with your ad, and I am the recruitment page janitor so I do remove ads which are not up to standards.
So move everything for your ad onto your recruitment ad page, remove the header, then repost it. - W 13:42, 2 February 2008 (UTC)

I thank you and appreciate you pointing this out to me, I must have misunderstood the rules and apologize for any inconvenience you may have encountered by this and I assure you that it will be fixed immediately...--Chaplain Drakon Macar 19:41, 3 February 2008 (UTC)

Recruitment

Hows the new system working, over all? I did a full page edit last night and found a frustrating number of non-conforming adverts (many of which you'd already caught). I'm guessing enforcement on individual adverts is easier now, but with so much (accidental?) non-compliance, is it worth it having the stricter guidelines? It seems that a lot ofp people just don't "get it".
I'm asking because I'm trying to come up with some way to simplify the process. The best I can think of is to make a template that people can paste their text and so on into. This puts up back in the situation we were before (lots of text on the page itself) but with each advert text etc contained in a template. The individual templates would be very easy to edit out, and could in fact contain a variable that, if set to "mod removed" would cause them to display a stock "sorry, you broke the rules" type message. (Other vlaues could include "newly submitted" and "mod approved"- the idea is to make it easy to track guideline complaince, and easier to communicate in cases of non-complaince.)
This could be (intetionally) very limiting in advert design, but, I think, much easier for newbies to use- hopefully no harder than making a suggestion is now, likely easier. The guidelines would also offer the option for "advanced users" to design their own template, with certain restrictions on its appearance, similar to the the current advert content guidelines. The benefit is, the rules for "advanced users" would be posted elsewhere (maybe the recruitment talk page) rather than on the recruitment page; the recruitment page would just give instructions for the basic template use, which could be (hopefully) very brief and foolproof. Because, it seems, we have a lot of fools.... SIM Core Map.png Swiers 22:20, 23 February 2008 (UTC)

It works well, and lessens the work load. But as you say, it seems we have a lot of fools. So I'm all for a template that they can simply paste text and an image into. It will make the page longer, but with the offer of being allowed to use advanced ads, the more experienced wiki users (and the more stable groups) will opt for the advanced version, keeping it somewhat balanced. Also, the variable sounds nice, would make it easier. - W 14:41, 24 February 2008 (UTC)

recruitment template guide

i made a guide for making a recruitment ad and i was wondering if you would be opposed to me putting it up over the "help desk" area on the talk page since most of the questions seem to be about that any ways. --Bullgod 02:31, 24 February 2008 (UTC)

Anything that will help newbies and make the process easier for them is good in my books. - W 14:26, 24 February 2008 (UTC)

Editing feedback

Hi there.

I would like to thank you for calling my attention to the errors in the Malton Urban Militia recruitment advert. I think I have it straightened out - please double check it and leave me a message if further corrections are necessary. As much as I appreciate you editing & leaving the heading intact, which ultimately led me to researching what I had done wrong, deleting everything and telling me "Do not place content on this page, thanks." did not indicate to me that I had not formatted something correctly. Perhaps a more helpful edit could read something like: "Review format and use proper format for adverts" or something that gives one a clue that they have done this improperly. (Unfortunately, I copied the format used by another group I think you edited/deleted - Malton Order of Priests I think - believing that I was using an accepted method - in retrospect, I ought to have read more carefully and attempted to compose a recruitment page following the instructions instead of assuming someone who came before me knew what he was doing...)

I understand that you are trying to keep things orderly - we other users will be better able to correct our errors when we understand what we may have done wrong (rather than repeat them by re-posting the same mistakes which I did do the first time that you - or someone - edited the advert. Maybe you're tired of people making the same dumb mistakes that every other newb has made, but most folks will appreciate being pointed in the right direction as they are edited/deleted.

Thanks, MMCC

Mayor MC Cheese 23:05, 15 March 2008 (UTC)

Hello, your ad meets the standards. As for me not being very informative, I can only apologise. As you have suggested, I am getting tired of seeing the same mistakes (might think of something to simplify the process). Add that to my lack of time (school, exams soon) for maintenance of the page, I tend to be very short and uninformative. I guess I should really take that as a sign that I can't continue much longer. But anyway, feedback appreciated, although it shows me as doing a poor job. Again sorry, and I'll try to do better. - W 23:52, 15 March 2008 (UTC)

You still patrolling that and deleting the out of date stuff?

I thought I'd ask before I went in, in case I'd be treading on your toes. -- To know the face of God is to know madness....Praise knowledge! Mischief! Mayhem! The Rogues Gallery!. <== DDR Approved Editor 23:35, 22 April 2008 (BST)

I'd be happy to.
Just to make sure, warnings don't have to be given before deletion (as everything can be put back up) and it's 14 days and out? -- To know the face of God is to know madness....Praise knowledge! Mischief! Mayhem! The Rogues Gallery!. <== DDR Approved Editor 23:43, 22 April 2008 (BST)

Dude WTF man?

What happened to the BMC ad? has the page been deleted or something? The man 10:27, 13 May 2008 (BST)

Why you never became a dancer

Hey! I was just wondering, have you heard the powerelectronics industrial band Whitehouse? If that's what you named your account after, I'll give you a kiss. DanceDanceRevolution 13:42, 16 June 2008 (BST)

Lets not rule it out just yet. So what do you generally do in Urban Dead? Any groups? Projects? DanceDanceRevolution 13:52, 16 June 2008 (BST)
The people are great, the characters are fun, and its just a nice game to play for 10 minutes a day, and the level of involvement can vary depending on how much time you have on your hands. Its dynamic nature is also great. It was only 3 months ago that The Dead were destroying everything... DanceDanceRevolution 10:09, 17 June 2008 (BST)

MU ad

I am confused, what in my ad has to be smaller than 275 pixels? There are other ads that are clearly larger than the MU ad.... What I am saying I guess, is that I don't understand. Could you please further elaborate? Pardon my ignorance. paper walls + Talk + Malton Underground 20:45, 22 June 2008 (BST)

I understand. If you would, review the corrected ad and let me know if it is acceptable. I would appreciate it. Also just for my information, do templates count as images? I don't think they do, I just wanted to make sure. Thanks again. paper walls + Talk + Malton Underground 21:11, 22 June 2008 (BST)

The Recruitment Page

Some (insert expletive here) has saved an old version of the page causing us more work. I'll fix it all tomorrow when I get back from work, approximately 18 hours from now. Possible recruitment page problem

This was reported to me today. I can't actually see anything wrong with it or the page, but I could be the way I've set my screen up. Well?

What did the council say about the history page? The man 10:30, 10 September 2008 (BST)

You wont believe this, but they actually haven't given me an answer. The people who responded were the non council admins, and they were divided, saying either toss it or edit it. I've repeated my request for an answer. - User:Whitehouse 14:05, 10 September 2008 (BST)
