Cookie time and Clean-up :)
Cookie Time | |
Johnny Twotoes has given Charles Whipplebotum a cookie for his tireless efforts on the Map! |
Also, this place could use some clean-up after all my rambling... :p
- Hey thanks! It is coming along rather nicely. I've been talking with Aichon and The General about the page limits and such. Found here. Managed to knock out the first 50 while watching the entire series of Psych. Hopefully I can get through the rest before I finish Mad Men. Charles Whipplebotum 23:19, 28 August 2012 (BST)
- You're doing a great job man! Keep it up and don't tell me anything about Mad Men, it's next on the list ;) -- Johnny Twotoes 03:02, 29 August 2012 (BST)
- Even if the map breaks, just keep adding those templates, I found a secondary use and we can always split it into quadrants ;) -- Johnny Twotoes 16:58, 3 September 2012 (BST)
Charlie!
Thanks for stopping by! :) I'm very excited about my page! I'm trying to make it a bit more exciting, like yours and johnny's! :) -TombTrash 05:27, 6 September 2012 (BST)
Hi
My name is also charlie. But that's not why I'm here. I'm here to say those new danger report systems you've made are exquisite, absolutely fantastic job to you and johnny. A ZOMBIE ANT 03:21, 10 September 2012 (BST)
- Are you planning on somehow using all of them in one big map? A ZOMBIE ANT 03:23, 10 September 2012 (BST)
- Thanks Charlie! Unfortunately the Wiki has Template Reference Limitations so at most we can fit 83 suburbs (~800 template references) on one page before the template limit is reached which is why we had to break it up into quadrants. Here's the incomplete city-wide map. -Charles Whipplebotum 04:17, 10 September 2012 (BST)
- why not leave out the burbs that no one gives a shit about?--User:Sexualharrison06:52, 10 September 2012
- We're considering several options at the moment, and Charles has started on the most viable one: dividing the giant map into quadrants. Other options include making status maps for several building types or specific areas on request for groups. We're also working on an adjustment to the standard suburb template, which you can find on the right on each suburb page. Thanks for all the support guys! -- Johnny Twotoes
- so what 25 burbs per quadrant? won't that still break it? i really know nothing about this but I really want you guys to succeed. we need this. --User:Sexualharrison13:53, 11 September 2012
- SUCCESS! And as an added bonus Quadrant Map with building name on hover. -Charles Whipplebotum 16:32, 11 September 2012 (BST)
- excellent! I noticed the hover-over suburbs too on the large one... I was going to suggest that a few days ago, but you are all too fast for me! Have you thought of making it so when you click on a suburb it goes to the suburb page? That would be mighty neat?? A ZOMBIE ANT 15:32, 12 September 2012 (BST)
- Already looking into it, but we're being a bit careful with the size of it all (the complete map takes between 15 seconds and 1.15 minutes to load for me, depending on machine and connection) ;) Also: I'm working on incorporating one per suburb in the standard suburb template already, so not sure if it would be necessary. PB&J 15:39, 12 September 2012 (BST)
- Holy SHIT 15 seconds to a minute!? even when I refresh cached files to be sure it still is almost instantaneous for me... maybe I'm just lucky. A ZOMBIE ANT 15:45, 12 September 2012 (BST)
- Also: I honestly think that if this is distributed prpoerly throughout the wiki (which it sounds like you're planning on doing), it could breath life back into danger reporting. Just such a good idea, so well executed A ZOMBIE ANT 15:46, 12 September 2012 (BST)
- And it all started with that magical sentence: "I'm bored, let's see if Charles is up for something really big and time consuming" :P PB&J 15:56, 12 September 2012 (BST)

Hey DangerCenter suggestions
Hey buddy, as you can probably tell I allowed myself the chance to put my grubby hands on the Dangercenter template. As you can see it didn't turn out great. I anticipated the page would be useable as a template on other pages in future, like the well-used Suburb, which I genuinely think DangerCenter could be put on to replace (or more realistically coincide with) the current danger map. I didn't realise it has a code calling on the subpages of whatever page it's on (I guess?) so it can't be done yet.
No big issue, but hey, I think this is a great map and I think if pushed properly it could go far in the long term. Putting it on a high-use page or doing other things to give it exposure could just bring it into the necessary light for people to start maintaining blocks regularly to help upkeep the quality of the map. It's also more interesting and could potentially be more accurate than Danger Map.
I don't mean to nag but I think this is a great map, and has great potential, and I'd be willing to help give suggestions or do necessary prodding on the wiki to give this map greater exposure. I've always had an interest in visual interpretations of the population in malton, I made a few videos about it in the years of yonder [1].
Also, I still think clickable links to the suburbs (accompanying the already-made hover-over indicators) would increase the use by a huge amount!
Just some suggestions from a humble admirer. X
