Description
You are standing outside Spraggon Drive Railway Station, a narrow red-brick building surrounded by a large paved plaza. Behind railings, you can see railway tracks disappearing into the surrounding city.
History
Erected by private train company owner Richard Spraggon, in the face of massive local opposition (as all decent Wykewoodites had chauffeur-driven Bentleys), the decidedly lower-class Spraggon Drive station was at best a redbrick eyesore and at worst a source of noise, smoke and working-class people. Trains were contemptuously referred to as "Spraggon's Dragons" and the station was always a loss-maker. Promises to turn the railway into a high-speed line using silent, eco-friendly rolling stock were never kept. Spraggon nonetheless managed to wheedle huge subsidies from the Malton Council and retired to a private Caribbean island, Spraggoniola, shortly before travellers finally swamped the platforms for the first time in the station's murky history.
