The Hivemind is a group of axe-wielding (or '-awkwardly-flailing') miscreants originating from a shadowy network outside of the confines of Malton. They are based in the South West quarter of the city.

    History

Founded in mid-May 2006, the Hivemind is a group of struggling survivors, desperately hunting for a relatively safe corner of Malton in which to hole up. It consists entirely of untrained, ill-equipped and extremely nervous stragglers. The members of the Hivemind are trying to keep each other alive, but their efforts to do this are thwarted by a complete lack of any useful skills. Thus far, assistance has tended to consist mostly of yells of "run faster, they're gaining on you" from the inside of heavily barricaded buildings.

By mid-June, the surviving members of the Hivemind (fewer than half the initial group), had settled into their new home, and started to come to terms with the daily routing of chopping, shopping, shooting and looting. This process has been greatly assisted by the discovery of a significant supply of high-strength anti-anxiety medication at a nearby hospital. Life in Malton at its best.

A few days ago, Malton Tours Inc. stopped in at one of the 'Mind's favourite hang-outs. After a leisurely game of table tennis, punctuated by a live performance of Pope Beligerent I's infamous chalice dance, some of the Hivemind decided that the Malton Tours crew were a fun bunch to hang out with for a while. Plus they make great cocktails. The 'Mind is thus getting ready to tag along with the Tour, at least as far as the stadium, and maybe also for a visit the zoo. These preparations consist mostly of sobering people up sufficiently to be able to follow the Tour, and stockpiling a large supply of the above-mentioned anti-anxiety medication for the trip.

6/6/6 has come and gone, leaving most of the 'Mind a bit unsatisfied due to the lack of any real zombie activity. Following the dissapointment of the evil horde, some of the 'Mind decided to shack up with the Malton Tour Group and throw a huge party using afore mentioned booze, food, medicine and condoms. There was even some rumours of an up-and-coming table tennis tournament. We can only hope that there is some other evil number we have no knowledge of and that the horde will bring us some much needed XP... 8/6/6 maybe?

    31 May, 2006

Last night many battles were fought and won.

The region for the most part seems fairly safe. Civilians are barricading buildings as much as possible, stocking up on booze, food and condoms. The 6/6/6 approaches and intel reports that the greatest threat for the Hivemind group will approach from the East. Large numbers of slobbering infidels were spotted on a scouting mission in the early hours of the morning.

After seeing the masses of zombies make their way to the safehouse an alarm was sent out to the forces of the mind. Too little too late and the surrounding areas look like something from the Battle of Stirling. Nonetheless a few good men (and women) decided to resist the onslaught and the zed infestation is now met with savage almost comical resistance.

The dawn of a new day (31st May) will be another day filled with spurts of blood and gushing of arteries on these once quiet streets. We will r e s i s t.

    29 May, 2006

The safehouse has been overrun by PKers, and all survivors capable of leaving have fled for safer ground. Still in the building are those who were unlucky enough to get their sorry selves killed in the attack (like yours truly - greenwitch). FAKs are in high demand, and discussions will no doubt soon turn to revenge, once the matter of dinner has been fully debated...

Most of the remaining members of the Hivemind group are safely inside their headquarters, somewhere in the South of Malton. Spurred on by the continuous groans and screams from outside, frequently from colleagues being mauled right outside the barricades, they have begun co-ordinating patrols of nearby buildings and roads. Squadrons of ruthless axe-wielding maniacs routinely descend on stray zombies. And the team of medical and revivification experts inside the building is growing used to the occasional echo of gun shots.

Scouts continue to provide information on nearby malls, hospitals, fire and police stations. News is generally good, with reports of large numbers of other survivors in key locations. Last week's heavy zombie presence in the suburb seems to have died down. Control of a key neighbouring NecroTech buildings has been regained, and additional survivors are still trickling in to HQ.

Unfortunately, there has been no news from several group members for days or even weeks. Many are, by now, presumed lost by some collective, unspoken agreement. Nobody has yet volunteered for the messy job of reviewing the group's list of members for casualties, but this must eventually be done...

    17 May, 2006

Following an apparent zombie invasion of the NecroTech building next door to the previous safe-house, there was a frantic overnight retreat to a new safe-house. Northernlights, alicedee, Cynric, Dirk Kennelworth, Rikkitikkitavi, plesty and Echohawk have all made it safely to the new location. It is thought that one or two members of the group may have been left behind in the confusion of the sudden retreat; they will be missed. (Especially by those who haven't yet taken hand-to-hand combat...)

    16 May, 2006

Nothing had yet been heard from WonderMonkey and Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, greenwitch has been located in a cemetary in Brooksville where she is holing up with dozy, awaiting revivication. plesty has located the safe house but, unable to get in, was brutally slain whilst banging woefully on the door, begging for entry.

Field commissions were requested for Nibbles McRiot and stevestander, however the commission was declined by the latter. Pending Major Domo approval, Sergeant McRiot will assume command of the Night Watchman timetable and the medical roster. Volunteers are sought to assist with the rotation of watchman and collection of medical supplies. A field co-ordinator is also needed from the Necrotech people.

    15 May, 2006

Plans to assemble at the safehouse are beginning to fall into place. Cynric and Dirk Kennelworth have joined Echohawk; Klept, unknownsoldier and Spacesbetween are also nearby, albeit in body rather than spirit. Slightly further away, but still lumbering in an orderly manner are dozy and pegpocket. We wish them all the best for a rapid revivification.

On the eastern side of the city, news is not so positive, with GDrake and bretton coming under serious zombie attack during the night. GDrake has had to abandon his zombified companion and execute plan B (which basically boils down to "run like hell"). Not far away from this tragedy, Andre Daub has had his head blown away for the third successive time. There are concerns amongst the rest of the group that he is growing accustomed to life in his headless zombie state, and may be reluctant to return to the living. Advice to "head west at the first opportunity" was received with loud groans by zombies and humans alike.

Nibbles McRiot has reported in (finally alive) and has developed a strategy for reaching the rest of the group, and Jaelaz -- who unfortunately fell victim to the zombies while on a scouting mission near the safehouse, has also been revivified. Daxstein has now joined Nibbles, and the pair of them rest and plot their upcoming trek.

In the northeastern quadrant of Malton, both MassiveBoots and nxsy have remained as yet entirely untouched by the undead. Nxsy is proving a valuable asset to both the group and his employer through his ongoing quest to sample as much zombie DNA as possible while he moves towards the safehouse. By the time he gets here, we hope he has gathered a large collection of syringes.

We deeply mourn those who fell during the bleak times that followed our initial arrival in this cursed city. We also solemnly swear to honour the departed with an axe through the head if they come anywhere near us yelling "Braaaaaainsss..."
