Auto Attack

Yes this is an auto attack but I don't agree that it's necessarily bad (it's not actually against the guidelines, it's just that it's usually unpopular. So the spam votes are not justified.) Let's go through the reasons auto attacks are claimed to be bad according to that page and see how they apply to this suggestion:

  • Would an infected person lose health each time they auto-attacked?
Yes. That's part of the cost of the protect command.
  • If every high level player could automatically defend themselves, this would encourage people to attack newbies first, which isn't really fair.
The suggestion description states that the protect command available to all characters.
  • If characters can automatically shoot when they are attacked, shouldn't they be able to automatically heal themselves or even run away?
No. Those actions require more thinking on the part of your character than simply lying in wait with their finger on the trigger.
  • Zombies hardly care about HP anyway.
So if the attacker that you auto-attack is a zombie who unexpectedly broke in, you're wasting AP. That's a calculated risk.
  • Why let the computer do the fun part of the game?
I don't consider bashing the attack button to be the most fun part, but if you do, no-one is forcing you to use this command.
  • It would be less fun to attack people if you were being automatically attacked back.
Not really, you just have to remember to heal yourself.
  • Would it use up AP/supplies? Imagine logging on to find the computer spent all of it. Not fun.
Yes. That's part of the cost of the protect command.
  • PKing is an important way to get rid of griefers. Auto attacks could weaken PKing?
Not really, you just have to remember to heal yourself.

Also this would introduce a fun tradeoff to the game: do you protect yourself (expecting a visit from a PKer?) or the cades? or the radio (are you busy spamming?) You can only protect one thing at a time. --Explodey 19:38, 4 June 2008 (BST)

A Good Friend Watches Your Back

Re: Suggestions/12th-Apr-2006#A_Good_Friend_Watches_Your_Back
These two suggestions are not the same. The previous one is permanent and will make your character always intervene to defend an ally. With this one you have to manually click a button to defend an ally or an object (the previous version does not include defending objects.) And this suggestion would not prevent damage to the target, only deal damage to the attacker.--Explodey 19:46, 4 June 2008 (BST)

As I said, I'm digging for others. This one is a mish-mass of various auto-defense suggestions so it's more of a dupe in general as opposed to a dupe of an individual suggestion. -- Cheese 19:50, 4 June 2008 (BST)
