Basic Info:

  • Excellent place to find first aid kits. Zombies frequently check inside.
  • Portable Generators have a use other than powering the lights and increasing search probability in hospitals. Players with the Surgery Skill can heal for 15 HP if the Hospital has a fueled up Generator.
  • Hospitals can be barricaded normally.
  • Among the internal descriptions found in Hospitals:
    • "...its wards and corridors blackened with the soot of a recent fire"
    • "...its empty wards criss-crossed with snapped quarantine tape."
    • "...one of the city's psychiatric hospitals."
    • "...dark corridors leading through abandoned wards."
    • "...its emergency room in disarray."

Description

Maltonhospitals.PNG

Silverius General Hospital, aka "The Mad House", is a hospital located in the suburb of Rolt Heights on the border with Gibsonton to the south. Built in 1909, the hospital served as an insane asylum for the mentally impaired, but to locals it was simply the "mad house". While the name was not appreciated by the sanatorium's doctors and other staff it unfortunately stuck and hardly any of the suburb's local residents called the hospital by its real name. Unlike many of Malton's other sanatoriums Silverius General Hospital saw an ever-growing number of patients filling its padded rooms, more so than any other suburb. Most of the cases appeared to involve paranoid delusions, schizophrenia, or phobias. The phobias were the most troublesome as nowhere else in Malton were there so many cases that involved people suffering from an abject fear of "strange abominations from outside time and space". Many of these patients feared for their lives and no amount of counselling appeared to convince them that these fears were nothing more than mental delusions. In an odd twist many of these patients would, from time to time, disappear from their rooms. In the middle of the night. Blood covering the floor, walls, and ceiling. Very peculiar indeed. Even so, the doctors and nurses had more than enough patients to worry about and the nearby police department appeared to be filing away the missing person reports... somewhere. No worries then.

Ever since the initial outbreak, known to some as the "Malton Incident", the hospital has done its best to help treat the injured and provide safe harbor for the citizens of Malton, but more often then not it has come under siege from the zombie hordes. Many are the times that the hospital has suffered for its attempts to keep its barricades low enough to let inexperienced survivors inside, as zombies have on several occasions breached the hospital's defenses.

Mandate

The staff at Silverius General Hospital try to always support the following ideals:

  1. To provide medical assistance to anyone and everyone who enters.
  2. To cure the infected.
  3. To keep its doors open to lower level survivors, if possible.

It is asked that survivors please note whether or not there is a portable generator within the hospital, and whether it has fuel or not. As a working portable generator is required for the Surgery skill it is asked the survivors provide support by replacing either the generator when destroyed or refilling its fuel supply when its exhausted. This in turn will allow the medical staff to provide more efficient aid to the injured.

Barricade Policy

This building should be Very Strongly (VS+2) barricaded at all times. This is in accordance with the mutually supported Rolt Heights Barricade Plan set forth in agreement with local survivor groups. This building is meant to serve as a shelter for Malton's inexperienced survivors and an entry point into the more fortified buildings around it. As a hospital it is important that every effort be made to keep an "open door" policy (VS+2 barricades) so that inexperienced survivors can find the medical aid they need.

Very recently, Big Damn Heroes has begun to watch over the hospital. As they support the Rolt Heights Barricade Plan, every effort is being made to make sure that the barricades never exceed Very Strongly barricaded (VSB++), except in times of zombie assault.
