Moderation policies

Recently the UD forum on Proboards added new moderators Byrant Dilstar and Shaft121. Several people on the forum called this decision into question because of Shaft121's history of bad posts on both desensitised and proboards forums.

Examples:

Exhibit A Exhibit B Exhibit C Exhibit D Exhibit E

On Proboards, Shaft121 asked poster 'Billy' for evidence he had ever acted childishly. In response, on 24 April I posted the evidence (such as listed above, but with actual Proboards links, many of which are now mysteriously gone) in a new thread, leading many others to comment on the topic. I also pointed out that in the "DARIS" thread on proboards he had called for desensitised to be hacked, something that no one had challenged before that time.

On 25 April the entire thread and the entire DARIS thread were purged (not even accessible in Trash) and I received this message:

An Error Has Occurred
Your account has been disabled by a staff member. You will be able to access your account again on Apr 26, 2006, 6:09am (CST)

Then on 26 April at 8:28am (CST) I logged on to get the following:

An Error Has Occurred
Your account has been disabled by a staff member. You will not be able to access your account again until your account is re-enabled.

Sykic/Lamarr was also permabanned.

A number of people have posted threads or PMed mods and the list owner about the thread deletions and the permabans. The response has been for the people banned to PM the mods to explain. Problem is, we are banned and cannot send PMs. Since then they have made comments about it but have not chosen to lift our bans or that of Timmothy, an earlier casualty of the forum that we have asked to be unbanned as well.

Meanwhile, Shaft121, who was banned from desensitised, created a bogus account and yesterday spammed the board pretending to be his fiancée.

Current discussion and comments from mods and listowner can be found here: Dez, please stop

The purpose of this entry is to demonstrate that there is no control or oversight into the actions of the mods on the Proboards forum. Furthermore, it appears that the listowner and mods are unwilling to take action against a renegade mod (Shaft121) OR acknowledge that they made a mistake in choosing him to serve as a mod in the first place. --Roxie 27 April 2006 02:58 GMT

I am uncertain of your reasons for posting this here. Noone on the wiki so far as I know is affiliated with the higher ups of the Proboards forums, nor do we chronicle the goings on of any of the forums (at least, we don't anymore). While I am certain that this is a major issue for the Proboard forums, it's really got little to do with us, and we're desperately trying to reduce the level of conflict on the wiki. -- Odd Starter talkModW! 06:08, 27 April 2006 (BST)
I posted this here because there is no other shared public forum to do so. This is not the main page for the Proboards forum but the 'talk' page, which as I understood it is intended to allow for this kind of discussion about the entries or the entities involved on the primary page. Proboards for some reason remains one of the forums people use to discuss UD but their moderation policies need to be examined. My entry therefore isn't so much to stir up conflict as it is to call attention to a problem that has existed since the early days of the game. It may be worth pointing out that I signed up on the Proboards forum in early September 2005. Yet they banned me because I dared to challenge a new moderator by posting the sordid truth about him. Despite the fact that he called for hacking of the desensitised forum and then deleted all evidence to that effect, he remains a mod and I remain banned. -- Roxie 27 April 2006 14:21 GMT

UPDATE

Inscryer/Ez has rescinded the bans on myself, Sykic and Timmothy; he has demodded Shaft121. He has also apologized to us all.

I for one accept his apology and appreciate all the actions he has taken to remedy this situation. Hopefully future Proboards mods will learn from Shaft121's mistakes.
