"Surrealism will usher you into death, which is a secret society. It will glove your hand, burying therein the profound M with which the word Memory begins."

"The simplest Surrealist act consists of dashing down into the street, pistol in hand, and firing blindly, as fast as you can pull the trigger, into the crowd."

- Surrealist Manifesto, 1927

"There is a man cut in two by the window."

- André Breton, Surrealist Manifesto Author

News

November 30, 2008 - Encore

Once again, the Surrealists have returned to preserve and create fine art in Malton. They are looking for citizens of Malton with the desire to desire. Without the laws of yester-year to pester them, they are searching out the intellectual, insane, and, most of all, the all-of-the-aboves. Those willing to randomly fire pistols in the street, run naked through the streets of Barrville debating 'pataphysics, enter deep states of hypnosis, create art through any means necessary, prosecute art theft, and/or have scones with a Rummer and Marshal in the same night should apply.

Tryouts will (not) be rigorous. Prior knowledge of bocci ball is required.

The Surrealists

The Surrealists, a.k.a. Malton Art Force, are a fairly chaotic group and currently consist of rather ostentatiously dressed members. All those of a slightly odd disposition are welcome (no potatoes).

History

The Surrealists were founded in the midst of apocalyptic chaos in an Irish Bar in Malton, shortly before the whole zombie outbreak thing, in answer to the increasing abandonment of Maltons´ rich cultural artwork.

June again is still the best month for the Surrealists, as the group started its second renaissance under the leadership of Dux Ducis. Tea and scones are still available for all on the talk page. Fresh ones will be added every morning.

In November, stirrings of a Surrealist revival bubbled among the scholars of Southall Mansion. After a recreation of a Max Ernst artwork was found in spray-paint, it became evident that the avant garde had once again resurfaced. With the blessing of the former Surrealist head, the shift was formalized.

The policies of the Surrealists are still under development, and will be improved over the older, more archaic ones.

Objectives

The Surrealists remain an incoherent whole, and as such aims and objectives are somewhat difficult to pin down. General strategy has been observed however:

The Surrealists aim to secure and protect artworks. They appear to have been working at random however, selecting few of Malton´s most valuable or even culturally respected installations.

Any looters will be hunted down and/or executed on sight

A secondary aim of raising awareness of Malton´s cultural plight appears to have been put into action, with severly limited success. It does appear that a spraycan in the hands of a Surrealist produces little by way of legible value.

Difficulties

The plan to protect Malton´s artwork is proving especially difficult however- they are constantly under threat from looters, gun wielding philistines, graffiti and the living dead. The Surrealists believe they will prevail however, as many of Malton´s citizens appear to disregard the major installations altogether.

Missions

Operation: Fine Art of Malton

  1. Log the location and contents of every museum.
  2. Protect said museums
  3. Open lucrative coffee shops throughout Maltons´ reestablished museums. Scone?

Operation: The 2nd Homecoming

  1. Choose a district to focus on. A quiet neighbourhood with regular bus access would be nice.
  2. Conduct a meeting on several important decisions facing the new era of The Surrealists.
  3. Based on the decisions of the meeting, secure the more important artworks and set up permanent powered base in the most vital building (for the second time.)

Long-Term Aims

  1. Raise awareness of Malton´s cultural plight.
  2. Produce artwork worthy of adding to the city.
  3. Find a nice recipe for fried zombie lungs (non-smokers only).
  4. Write a "Z" across the entire city, using only public transport.
  5. Engage in some "Counter-Tourism", a là "Experimental Travel".

Uniform

The Surrealists, however seemingly less organised in nature, still have a uniform of sorts. Full suits, including top tats, pocket watches and vests, though not compulsory are expected however. A mask to hide your identity from the common rabble is compulsory.

Forums, Radios & IRCs

The Forums

Soon coming. Use the talk page for the moment.

know what you are talking about Short-wave Radio Info
This group or location has a dedicated radio frequency.

Frequency: 28.45 MHz MHz
Transmitter Coordinates: Dynamic

Radio

Go on, spam those airwaves and tell the philistines of the terrible destruction they are doing to our exquisite museums. Or recite some classical literature. That would be fun indeed.

IRC Channel

Soon coming.

If you don't have a clue to what an IRC is or how to use it effectively, then use the almighty Google - that is what it is there for.

Important - Just because someone is in the chatroom, doesn't mean they're actually present at the computer (AFK). Lots of people stay logged in all day. So if no one's talking when you log in, it's not (necessarily) because they don't like you.
