The bullet left his chamber and entered a shrivelled skull. The corpse fell to the floor with a dull thump.
It wasn’t her.
The dead hordes had taken everything. In his weakness he’d let them take what mattered most. This was the only way to take her back.
He reloaded, checked his angles and crept down the street silently. The gunshot would draw others. Perfect.
Another body lurched into his sights. He levelled the rifle, aimed, fired.
