All of Penny Heights and the Lumber Mall have been liberated by Hasugo and Kodak7. You are always welcomed to stay and shop. Hasugo's grace protects the Lumber Mall and her people from the harsh outside world. Come and stay for the fun!

Basic Info:

  • Malls are an excellent place to find a wide range of items; the only major items that cannot be found here are revivification syringes and fuel cans. As such, Malls are frequently used as safehouses and fortresses by survivors. Zombies often check inside (when they can get in), and organized zombie groups sometimes lay siege to them. They are listed as a Tactical Resource Point.

Description

Lumber-mall-logo.jpg

Lumber Mall is a two-block shopping mall in the suburb of Penny Heights. It shares notoriety with Pole Mall for being one of only two malls in the City of Malton that is not four blocks. Lumber Mall has two blocks--a north and south corner--coordinates [99, 77] and [99, 78]. Pole Mall, it should be noted, has three blocks. Currently it is the Headquarters of The Lumberjacks and the Lumber Mall Security.

Lumber Mall was constructed as part of the "Mall Boom" that took place in Malton during the late 70s as part of the planned development of the city center further eastward. Lumber, which began construction in 1978 and finished in spring of 1979, was to straddle the suburbs of Penny Heights and a planned suburb known as Greenbank, and service the new areas east of the city.

However, the Energy Crisis of 1979 brought construction to a screeching halt, and few people wished to move into the new areas so far away from the rest of the city, and thus the government called a halt to the new construction. But Lumber Mall remained, and actually began drawing attention from its "abandoned" condition.

The mall is less open than other malls, with the only exception being the large food court in the center. Though there are wide avenues inside of the mall, the open centers are filled with rows of decorated pillars, which are needed to hold up the heavy steel-and-concrete roof. This combined with the green color scheme and low light level make the shopper feel as though they are wandering through a forest- quite a charming ideal, and one of the Mall's big draw points. Shops usually aim to go for a more "rustic" look and idea, and the whole effect gives you the feeling of being back a century in time, when the area was still heavy woodland with the small town of Malton far away.

After the initial construction, not much of note happened to Lumber Mall- up until the outbreak. A building in the Greenbank Strip (as the few rows of buildings completed were known) suddenly exploded, and within the hour the area was one of the major zombie hotspots of the town. Zombies made it up to the mall and were almost halfway through it when the Army hit the area with a massive artillery barrage.

The effect was awesome. When the survivors lifted their heads inside the mall, they found themselves staring out across a barren landscape. Greenbank had been leveled and fully half of the four-story metal-and-glass structure of the mall had been completely obliterated. Thankfully, survivors attempted to race away from the city, only to be met by inbound troops, intent on setting up a perimeter. A wall of guns fifteen blocks long caused the wave to reverse back into the city, and frustrated survivors could only watch as the soldiers began erecting what is now known as the Border Wall.

As the zombies grew in number and began to near the mall again, the survivors responded. Taking shop-closing gates, billboards, and huge strips of sheet metal, within ten hours of superhuman work the blasted edge of Lumber Mall, five feet away from the Border Wall, had been completely sealed off by a huge wall of steel. Welding finished the job, ensuring no zombies could enter except by the doors, and so Lumber Mall and its inhabitants settled down for the apocalypse.
