Description

A recent view of the Roger Building; also known as the Roger Arms.

The Roger Arms is in remarkably good condition, much like its exterior. The downstairs is taken up by a long and lacquered wooden bar; a common room complete with a billiards table and a broken jukebox; and a well-stocked kitchen with a wood-burning, cast-iron behemoth of an oven. Two sets of stairs lead to the upper floor and the cellar.

The cellar is stocked with kegs and bottles of beer, wine, basket of mobile phones forgotten by pub patrons, and several stacks of newspapers. Against the far wall, a generator lies powered-down and connected to a setup of electronic equipment and a radio transmitter set out on top of a desk.

Above the pub are the tenant rooms; spread out through the nine floors. Each floor has between five and eleven rooms, some of them smaller than others, and all of the rooms on a floor share a common bathroom. The tenant rooms on either side of the hallways are tidy and vacant of signs of residents. Pipes, put in post-quarantine, lead down from the roof and through the kitchen below from a water-catch trough on the roof; the water tower having long-been emptied.

Repairs have been made to the interior of the building, making it as secure as can be given the danger from outside. Free-running lanes from the windows of the third room of the left and the last two rooms lead to the nearby Brimblecombe Auto Repair building, to the Adler Crescent Fire Station, as well as to The Craddy Building nearby. At night, when the neighborhood is eerily silent, if one opens their ears, he or she can hear a man and women singing a duet of John Lennon's Imagine.

Before the Outbreak

The Roger Arms was a favorite pub among the locals and was built some fifty years before the outbreak. The Roger Arms was named after the pub's owner, Thomas Roger, who was once a U.S. Marines war veteran who served in World War II in his late 20s and moved to Malton several years after his subsequent discharge. The "Arms" part of the name refers to Thomas Roger's love of recreational hunting and weaponry from the American Old West. In fact, back when Malton wasn't quarantined, Thomas Roger used to go on hunting trips with friends and bring back a stuffed animal head of an animal that was no where near close to being extinct. Nonetheless, Thomas Roger loved his collection of weaponry and would show it to admirers and American Old West memorabilia enthusiasts.

Business was slow over the years at the Roger Arms ever since it opened and eventually Thomas Roger and his family were facing bankruptcy when a traveler stopped by for a drink. After ordering, the traveler got to talking with Thomas and after hearing his financial woes and seeing his saddened face of losing his pub, the traveler offered to help him out. At first, Thomas couldn't believe what the traveler said, but seeing the friendly smile on the traveler's face, he accepted the offer. Over the course of the following years, Thomas Roger expanded the pub, building nine floors of apartment units and expanding the cellar as well.

After the Outbreak

When the outbreak occurred, Thomas and his family were airlifted out by the descendant of the traveler. With nobody to watch over the building, it fell into disrepair. Over the years since the outbreak, the building housed stray survivors, fell victim to the attacks of undead, was repaired and sheltered more survivors, and countless more cycles of these events.

Eventually, the local neighborhood calmed down and the building was safe. Time will tell...

Note to Survivors

Greetings and well met fellow survivors of Malton. If you wish to reside in one of the rooms we have available, please feel free to move in and claim one. The rules for residence are simple and straight-forward.

General

  • Always keep the barricades at EHB, as all exits and entrances to and from the building are done via Free- Running.
  • Unless specified, please do not refill the generator unless you are willing to defend the building from the undead.
  • No looting of anything in the building as there a plethora of buildings nearby to suit all your material needs.

Noise and Conduct

  • Please keep any and all noise to a minimum, less you attract attention of passing undead.
  • The activities and conduct of all tenants and guests outside of the apartment, on the common grounds, alleyways, or any recreational facilities must be reasonable at all times and not annoy or disturb other persons or attract unwanted undead attention.

Housekeeping

  • You make a mess, you clean it up. Management is not your mother.
  • Feel free to post a sign on your bedroom door, however upon moving out, it must be removed.

Safety

  • Upon the discovery of a dead body, remove it immediately - working with other tenants to dismantle barricades if needed.
  • In the event of an undead invasion, relocate to The Cholmondeley Building immediately. The Omega Platoon will be more than ready to defend you if needed.

Maintenance, Repairs, and Alterations

  • You break it, you fix it. If you can't fix it, ask someone who can.
