| First off, the color and style was intentional. It's imitating the functionality of actual internal error reports mediawiki provides on output for things like broken parsers, etc. Second, your template as used on [[Template:Wikipedia]] wasn't working right when [[Template:Wikipedia|Wikipedia]] was used.
