Description
The Satsuma Car Company factory was once a gleaming example of modern factory design, but is now in a dismal state.
History
Constructed in the Swinging Sixties in order to produce vast quantities of affordable cars for Malton's expanding population, the Satsuma Car Co. factory also produced vast quantities of pollution, and a steady stream of gruesome industrial accidents. So bad were the working conditions behind the shiny factory doors, that it was an open secret that the average working life of a Satsuma machinist was approximately the same as that of a First World War infantryman.
The Satsuma Car Co.'s final flourish before the 1990s recession was the development of the Castanet XR4 Turbo in the 1980s. Aimed at the city's growing yuppie population, it soon had a reputation for being mechanically unreliable, temperamental and unsafe at any speed. Sadly, not nearly enough yuppies bought the overpriced deathtrap, and those same grasping, materialistic 20-something d-bags became grasping, consumerist 40-something d-bags in the years to come.
