My name is Timo Ducca. I'm 22, alone, and scared!
I was training new Scouts in Old Arkham with my brother Josef. I always had my radio with me. But this day, it kept getting static, so I turned it off. It was a stupid blunder and I take whole responsibility for what happened. I just hope I can be forgiven.
As part of The Malton Scouts, it was my job to help train the younger members in field work/radio/and small arms. My brother Josef trained under me himself, and was now considered an upper level scout like me. All of the boys practised with dummy weapons, only Josef, myself and two others had real ones.
The scouts were playing around, not listening to us (as usual) near the edges of the park, by the forest. One scout had come forward and said he saw a strange man limping by the hedgerows. Stupidly, I didn't investigate.
And then what seemed like a slow motion movie, those things came out of the woods! It looked like a hundred or so. They fell upon our group. I can vividly remember seeing one boy pointing his useless training pistol at one and screaming. Josef and I rounded up the boys nearest us and ran back through the park. But they were too many and had us surrounded. I fired at them with my pistol. I didn't see the other boys who ran with us. I assumed they were now dead. And that's when Josef fell, and one of those things bit him.
I fired into it's head, grabbed Josef, and we ran to a Farmhouse we knew of and barricaded ourselves in. Josef was in alot of pain, and moaned throughout the night.
The next morning I awoke to find Josef in really bad shape. The infection had spread, he could barely move, and spoke in small spurts. That was when he begged me to kill him. I cried, thinking of the thought of killing my little brother. I urged him to go on to Tapton with me. But we both knew, he was too far gone.
He closed his eyes, and I aimed my gun...

I ran for what seemed like ages. I wound up in a place called Buttonville. I decided to sleep in an old Cinema. In the middle of the night I heard some loud crashing. I went to investigate, and one of those things grabbed me. It bit me on the shoulder. I fought it off, then shot it. Within moments, I felt sick. It seemed like everything I did, made me sicker. I laid down when I could no longer stand.
---
I heard voices, a person was shaking me awake. Your'e gonna feel a slight prick, You've got an infection from this bite on your shoulder. Do you need a Revive? No, this one's just infected really bad. I tried to sit up, but felt really bad. Whoa there cowboy! Take it easy and get some rest. You'll be safe here. She gave me another shot. I felt better, but so tired. I fell asleep again.
---
I awoke slowly from the drugs I had been given. Realizing my surroundings I shot up in the make-shift cot I was sleeping on. We got a twitcher!! I saw a man in a bloody business suit pointing a gun at me. Whoa, chill out! Sometimes they get startled when they wake from an infection. It was the same voice I heard, who gave me the shot. Sind Sie ein Arzt? She looked at me quizzically. I realized I had lapsed into German. Are you a Doctor? . No, I'm just a person who knows about First Aid. What about you? You look like Military, sort of. Your Dogtags said... She pulled a small notebook out and read... T. Ducca/StäV/JG-OA/1212490.
Jah, that's me Timo Ducca of Ständige Vertretung, Jugendgruppe of Old Arkham and my number. So you were a Boy Scout? I smiled. Not really a Boy Scout m'am. No, I guess not. No Boy Scout I ever saw was armed to the teeth! What about these other tags...J. Ducca? A relative? Josef was my brother. I then explained what had transpired. I didn't realize it, but I was sobbing as I told my story. She put her hand on my shoulder. It's allright Timo, we've all done things like that. It hurts, but just remember him for what he was before. Lay down and rest a bit more, you'll need it. While I was resting she taught me how to look for things, and how to run between buildings.

I awoke the next morning, at least I thought it was morning. I got slowly out of bed, so as not to startle anybody. I didn't need another gun pointing at my head. There was a kid about my age rummaging around the concession area. Sweet! He looked over in my direction when he heard me get up. Oh, hey. You're up. You hungry? I couldn't find much, just some candy bars and soda. Yes please, I'm starving. I started to walk over to where he was. Grab your pack and stuff. If there's one thing I've learned is to never put your stuff down, you never know when you'll need to run. My name's Gizmo by the way. He extended his hand. I shook it. Timo, I replied, Timo Ducca.
I walked over and picked up my rucksack, when I did I heard something clatter to the floor. I picked it up. It was a cell phone. I couldn't get a signal, but the wallpaper had a large R. Find something? Yeah, a cellphone. Gizmo glanced over at it. Seems The Randoms left you a present. The Randoms? That's who those Medics were. They set up safehouses, heal folks, then move on. Where you headed? I'm trying to get to Tapton so I can join up with my unit of Ständige Vertretung. I'd avoid Kinch Heights. It's all overcaded. If you have to go there, don't stay anywhere till you can get out. I'm heading to Fort Perryn, I have a brother there. You have any family here? Not anymore. He nodded his head. We ate our stale candy and drank the warm soda, joking about things that were funny to boys our age. Suddenly, there was a loud creaking sound, somebody was pulling the nailed boards on the door down. I grabbed my pistol. Gizmo gestured to me to be quiet and stop. A man slipped through the open space. Gizmo stood up. You need to stop doing that! The man pointed his gun at Gizmo. And YOU need to shut the fuck up! It was the nervous man from the other day. He was out of breath like he had been running from somebody. Gizmo whispered to me...He's got a bounty on him, he killed some folks.
As we talked, there was noise from the upstairs balcony area. Suddenly two men and a woman descended the steps. Gizmo and I grabbed our stuff and stood. The two men pointed their shotguns at us. The woman said: You boys had best leave, there's nothing for you to see here! We scrambled up the steps and out onto a window onto the marquee. I could still hear the voices below: Mr. Chalmers, I sentence you to death for the killing of defenceless citizens! There were several loud shotgun blasts.
Gizmo and I jumped down off the marquee. I guess this is where we part. Yeah, I guess so, take care and be safe. Gizmo ran east, I began to run NW.
