The Scorbutic Surge was an opperation by the zombie group The Scurvy Scroungers that lasted from April 3rd 2013 - April 19th 2013. The 2 week opperation saw the Scroungers leave their home of New Arkham on a rampage of nearby zones, for the first time.

Background

Zombie and survivor clashes had been heating up in the months prior to the Surge. For 6 months the Scroungers had dominated the suburb of New Arkham and devistated bordering buildings. Begining in December of 2012, survivor activity began to seriously pick up in the area. This buildup of tensions culminated in a large battle for Zephyrnius General Hospital in northwest New Arkham which took place from March 28th - March 30th 2013 and resulted in a victory for the Scroungers and their new allies. To this point, this had been the largest battle the Scurvy Scroungers had participated in, though it would soon be surpassed by events of the Surge.

A little less than a week later, Army Control Corps took advantage of the easter weekend and Scroungers members' absense and launched a quick raid to repair the Scroungers home building of The Mitchener necrotec. In conjunction with this, survivor activity in the area continued to skyrocket. Scroungers leadership debated over the best way to respond to these events. The surge is the opperation the Scroungers embarked on as their response.

Objectives

The Scroungers' leadership laid down some objectives for the Surge.

1) Sack Tikhon Prime and Tikhon East.

2) Sack Tompson Mall.

3) Sack the Krinks Power Station and St Mark's Cathedral.

4) Return to New Arkham and declair opperations over when the Mitchener Building is re ruined.

5) Increase awareness of the Scurvy Scroungers in the area.

6) Help create an atmosphere of a 'zombie apocalypse' game by destroying safe havens of survivors.

Week 1

Week 1 of the Surge saw the Scroungers leave New Akrham, in an organized group, for the first time. The initial stages of the Surge were a learning experience for the Scroungers and full of disorganization. None the less, it was highly successfull.

The Scroungers first targeted the Henley NT and surrounding buildings, which were easily overrun.

Following this success the Surge continued to Tikhon General Hospital in Ruddlebank where they met with a bit of resistance but ultimately were successfull in sacking it.

The Surge next continued northward into the Cheekee Building and Tompson Mall. At the time, there was no significant action in the area, but with a little fighting, the Scroungers were able to rapidly gain access to the mall and ruin it and the surrounding buildings.

The first week of the Surge culminated in the battle for Tikhon General Hospital in Dartside. The Scroungers launched a successfull 2 day opperation at the Tikhon East complex which was heavily defended. Despite the heavy survivor presence, and a miscommunication amoungst the Scroungers which sent their auxillary force to Tikhon Prime instead of Tikhon east, the Scroungers' better coordinated assaults resulted in a decisive Scroungers victory. The battle was a large one for the southwest corner of Malton. The Scroungers brought a force of 45-60 zombies to face a force of around 65-80 survivors. Shapr PD alone had over 25 survivors inside of it when the Scroungers first got through the barricades. The battle was an overwhelming success for the Scroungers who thuroughly pillaged the area surrounding Tikhon East, and ended the events of the first week of the Surge.

Week 2

Week 2 of the Surge began as the Scroungers headed south into Williamsville where they took Krinks Power Station and otherwise caused mayhem in the suburb. Survivor resistance was minimal in Williamsville, though they were very responsive to attacks and repaired buildings, sometimes within hours of being ruined.

The Surge continued westward into Spicer Hills and St Mark's Cathedral. This structure was almost completely undefended, though response teams from local groups attempted to keep nearby buildings opperational.

The Surge next met with resistance on the border of Old Arkham, where they encountered nests of defenders in the Hopping Road PD, Stockman Walk Pd, and Bowring Way PD's. While not as large a battle as Tikhon East, this was still a sizeable fight, but ultimately survivors were overwhelmed by the coordinated surges from the Scroungers. A day or two after Bowring fell, chatter could be heard on various radio frequences indicating that various survivor networks were affected by the destruction of Bowring.

The Surge continued westward through Old Arkham, but resistance was slim through this zone, and buildings fell with ease. On the morning of April 19th, Scroungers members reported ruining the Mitchener Building once again, thereby ending the Scorbutic Surge of April 2013.

Scroungers Victory! Opperation successfull!

The Scroungers met all of their goals that were laid out in the opperations' objectives. They sacked Tikhon Prime, Tikhon East, Tompson Mall, The Krinks Power Station, St Mark's Cathedral, and re ruined the Mitchener. Further, radio chatter confirms that survivors were made aware and frustrated with the Scroungers' successes. Secondly, danger map reporting showed color changes as the Scroungers made their way into some of the zones for battles, indicating survivors felt threatened. The Scroungers also managed to destroy a number of targets that had been unknown to be survivor strongholds, increasing the success of the operation. Lastly, several feral zombies joined ranks with the Scroungers due to increased exposure of the Scroungers as a horde.

Lasting impact of the Surge still remains to be seen, but at least for the month of April in 2013, it has had a strong impact on the area.

Significance?

The Surge saw several sizeable battles fought, including the 2 day battle of Tikhon East, which saw over 100 participants. While compared to battles of years earlier, this is a small skirmish, but by todays population statistics the fight saw 1-2% of the total population of Malton, at the time, engaged in the one fight.

The Surge also marks the first time the Scroungers left New Arkham as a group.

The Surge is the Scroungers' first Opperation.

The Surge did help to foster the 'zombie apocalypse' theme for the game. Hopefully survivors can appreciate that the Scroungers are doing there part to help create a true 'survivor' feel for them.
