Description
St Augustine's is a magnificent Gothic edifice, its twin towers with their 'dreaming spires' marking the Malton skyline from their position on a small hill.
History
Although far from the oldest church in Stanbury Village, a title which belongs to St. Ambrose's Church, St Augustine's is certainly the most impressive. Standing on the foundations of much older and humbler religious buildings, dating back to the Roman and Norman periods, the church in its present form was constructed in the 14th century. Despite frequent fires and the repeated collapse of the central tower (which last occurred in 1865), the church was always restored to is former glory thanks to generous donations by the wealthier inhabitants of the Village.
It is particularly noteworthy for its stained glass, which depicts apocalyptic visions of angels armed with fiery swords decapitating legions of grey demons as the fiends feast on the flesh of sinful humans.
The church was built to honour St Augustine of Hippo, the patron saint of amphibious quadrupeds, and was a popular place of worship for Malton's Zookeepers before the outbreak resulted in the rapid consumption of Malton's hippos, and the disappearance of many zookeepers as well.
In recent years, St. Augustine's Church served as the HQ for the Malton Narcotics Unit, Malton's drugs strike force charged with the investigation of NecroTech and its use of illegal substances in the manufacture of revivification syringes, before the outbreak. It is thought the group used the church as a holding station and interrogation facility, although this remains unsubstantiated.
Barricade Policy
In accordance with the Stanbury Village Barricade Plan, this site is to be kept at Very Strongly Barricaded (VSB+2), in order to permit entry by rookies and those needing Free Running access. In the event of heavy zombie activity, barricades may be temporarily upgraded to EHB, but should be lowered back to VSB as soon as possible thereafter.
