Fun at the Movies

Type: mmmm... Flavor!
Scope: Lit cinemas only.
Description: In a powered cinema, you can change the movie that is currently playing. There will be a button labeled "Change film." When the button is clicked (1 AP), the following text appears: You replace the reel of film, and (insert movie description here) is now playing on the screen. The building description will then show the new movie being played after you change the film.

Discussion (Fun at the Movies)

I like it. Have you considered making film reels an item, so people might spend time searching for certain movies? Also, any ideas for what films should be shown? --Pdeq 04:25, 20 November 2007 (UTC)

All of the possible films can be found here. --Darth LumisT! A! E! FU! 04:27, 20 November 2007 (UTC)

I don't like it, because it actually strips away the unique flavour of the different cinemas. For example, the Killingback is famous for showing old B&W horror movies! And other cinemas have their own specialities. This suggestion will negate that very cool bit of (admittedly hardcoded, but still awesome) flavour. DON'T NERF BELA! --WanYao 04:43, 20 November 2007 (UTC)

Well, similarly, each museum has a different type of artwork that you can find. Maybe you could find B&W horror movies from Killingback and bring them with you to another cinema. --Uncle Bill 07:05, 20 November 2007 (UTC)
But again... doing so negates the built-in flavour of each cinema. Cinemas are among the few buildings (the only ones??) that are not totally generic within their class, i.e. all hospitals are ultimately the same, all NTs are the same, just different names and RNGed flavour text is all that makes them different. Some cinemas have a kind of in-game culture and history around the movies they specialise in, please dont fuck with that. I would vehemently oppose this suggestion because it makes every cinema generic. This suggestion REMOVES flavour, instead of adding it. Oh sure, each is diffierentiated as a source of slightly different item types, but its uniqueness and specificity as a PLACE, a place that might have a bit of history and culture surrounding it, this is all lost. Once again... DON'T NERF BELA! --WanYao 10:36, 20 November 2007 (UTC)

Perhaps the individual cinema might have a selection of movies available -- each one within the given genre for that cinema? You could only change the movie to one that is already in the cinema's inventory? --Shazzelim 13:00, 20 November 2007 (UTC)

It's nice! I like it. I also believe WanYao is overreacting about the built-in flavor. But that's just my opinion. Wait for a few more reviews, then consider taking it to court.--The Trichloroethane Potato SGP E! RQ! Winner 1! 18:31, 20 November 2007 (UTC)

I am not overreaching. For many people these kinds of things help define Malton's virtual reality. It is the RP that makes it fun. For many of us the shoot-em-up part of the game is quite secondary to RP and "social" aspect in its many forms. Of course RP oriented play is not the only correct way to play UD : all styles are valid. So dont needlessly nerf any of them. --WanYao 20:46, 20 November 2007 (UTC)

Sure. Just keep the Dracula out of that category. BoboTalkClown 21:28, 20 November 2007 (UTC)

I answered with my Kill vote. Sorry, but I still can't support this. Saving one building is like putting a couple of endangered animals in a zoo then saying you've staved off their extinction. --WanYao 05:18, 21 November 2007 (UTC)

The second version is here!--Darth LumisT! A! E! 19:24, 22 November 2007 (UTC)
