Story Relevance Debate
I suggest we edit the story out of this and the other guides. They serve no purpose and, let's face it, are terrible works of fiction. --Katthew 18:43, 10 Sep 2005 (BST)
A story could be nice, if it explained the reasons for and history of the zombie outbreak, but this is entirely the wrong kind of story. I say get rid of it.--Milo 20:18, 10 Sep 2005 (BST)
And let's not forget how badly it sucks. I'm not saying it's the worst fiction I've ever read, but it's nowhere near approaching "good" if you know what I mean. --Katthew 20:57, 10 Sep 2005 (BST)
Eh, they're cute, and they don't take up much bandwidth. It's likely the only part of the guides as they were originally written that will stay more-or-less intact. I say let them stay; since they're all labeled as stories no one has to read 'em. Or, in the alternative, we could rename them as bad stories . . . --http://otherlleft.com 14:08, 11 Sep 2005 (BST)
I agree with that. Even though this is a wiki, articles labelled "Guides" are opinion pieces and should probably be respected as-is except for literal accuracy, minor grammar, formatting, and such. Chymomon 23:49, 12 Sep 2005 (BST)
What's so bad, exactly, about the stories? Their not supposed to be great literature, and I think the NecroTech and Zombie stories are pretty interesting/fun reads. --LouisB3 04:07, 17 Sep 2005 (BST)
How about putting the stories somewhere else?-Radoteur 23:42, 17 Sep 2005 (BST)
With all the discussion about whether or not we should keep the stories, I can't fathom why someone would edit the story solely to change the character's name. --otherlleft 03:49, 18 Sep 2005 (BST)
Requests
Can someone add something to this guide about how to get yourself revivified? I've tried standing around in high traffic areas but all that seems to happen is me getting shot, yet again. I've been playing for 2 weeks and I'm tired of creating new characers when I die!
- Please sign your entries on talk pages: type --~~~~. You can try to coordinate a revive through the forums... there are a number of threads for it. But really, my advice is to just try to have fun as a zombie; eventually you'll be revived. You could also camp outside necrotech buildings, or find someone outside and say "Mrh?" several times.--Milo 03:49, 17 Sep 2005 (BST)
- And here I thought I was the only one who didn't sit around and mope when I died! I tend to bank some XP for zombie skills, should I need them, since head shot takes a chunk out of a new zombie that's already high level. --otherlleft 04:47, 17 Sep 2005 (BST)
Contradiction under Leveling
The text on leveling emphasizes Vigour Mortis (in bold) and Neck Lurch for 1st skills and describes them as necessities, but the list puts them after two others. (I don't know what anyone but the orig author could do about this, because it's an opinion piece, and who knows his intent. But the text is very emphatic so I would go with that if I edited.) Infection vs Death
I'm wondering whether there may be scope for an effective tactic for high level zombies which focuses on infection rather than outright killing. I have in mind a policy where survivors are infected as soon as possible and then taken down to very low HP and then left to die through infection or to be killed by other low level zombies. I am wondering if this may have a number of useful effects:
- low level zombies benefit from the XP bump and level up faster (high levels do not need the XP)
- infected survivors who are not cured must remain inactive or die (the effect of this is to selectively neutralise career survivors until they are healed)
- infected survivors are only able call out for help (increases paranoia and encourages AP wastage)
- wider infection rates in zombies increases the likelihood that a revived survivor will be infected (it is the gift that keeps on giving)
- wider infection rates in zombies increase AP cost of revives (because heals must also be used)
- leaving survivors barely alive encourages survivors to heal each other rather than revive zombies (reviving is the only tactic which can decrease zombie numbers)
- it is demoralising to die from infection
