Because I'm a pedant who doesn't sleep much
Possible etonyms for the name of "Ridlaegh":
- Rí Liath: Grey King (overtones of age/wisdom)
- Rí Deighil: lit 'Separate' King (overtones of otherness, strangeness, foreign-ness)
- Rí Díleá: King of Digestion. Om nom.
- Rí Dleacht: Royal Duty, Dutiful King
- In the above, "rí" (king) could alternatively be replaced by "ríog" (spasm, paroxysm) or "reithe" (ram). As such, I'm leaning towards Ríog Díleá (ree-og djeelyah, which gives for a plausible Romance/Saxonic bastardisation to the end result), which literally translates as "digestive spasm", or more roughly, "feeding frenzy". This all, of course, assumes Q-Celtic, and not the Welsh/Brythonic P-Celtic which is significantly different, and a lot more flowery-looking. 06:03, 19 October 2010 (BST)
