Current

Any user who is reported as vandal in the wiki can be banned for long periods of time after the decision of a single sysop.

The Idea

In order to ban a long term user for periods longer than a month, at least five sysops must agree with the punishment.

While this decision is not reached, the user can be banned for a period of a month. If three or an equal amount of sysops than those supporting the decision (whichever is higher) disagree with the ruling, the user can be unbanned from his month long ban until a decision is reached.

If at the end of this period the decision was not reached, the case will be dismissed. If he was serving his month long ban when the case was dismissed, he will receive a Banned for 1 month on his vandal record. If a decision is reached, the user must be punished as the decision was made in the day the first sysop ruled.

If the user commits an act of vandalism during the period the ruling is gathering support (like creating a sock account while serving the ban, or vandalizing after he got unbanned), any sysop is able to execute the punishment, independently of how many other sysops disagree with the ruling.

Examples

  • User Foo is reported in Vandal Banning. The Sysop Bar rules as vandalism. Since Foo had enough warnings to be banned for a year, Bar bans Foo for one month. At the end of the seventh day four other sysops agree that it was vandalism and that the user should serve his punishment as a whole. Bar or any other sysop can then unban Foo from his month long ban, only to ban him for the remaining 359 days.
  • User Lorem is reported. The sysop Ipsum rules vandalism. Lorem must be permanently banned. Three sysops, Dolor, Sit and Amet agree with the ruling. Four other sysops, (Consectetuer, Adipiscing, Quisque and Iaculis) disagree with the ruling, which allows Lorem to be unbanned. Donec decides to support the ruling, perma banning Lorem. Later two other unnamed sysops decided to disagree with the ruling, but a decision was already reached.
  • Long Term User
The definition of long term user is a user present in the community for a period of atleast two months who have made at least 100 contributions.
