UDWiki:Searching
General Searches
If the string typed into the search bar at left exactly matches the name of a page on the wiki, you will be brought directly to that page. Your search is case insensitive. If you wish to search for the string, without being brought to the page, hit "Search" instead of "Go".
If there is no exact title match, a list of possible matching pages is displayed, based the the relevance of the text string to the original search string. All of a page is searched, including terms that are <!-- commented out -->. Partial matches will not appear (i.e. a search for "pple" will not turn up any pages containing "apple").
A search can return pages without a certain word by placing a minus sign ("-") directly in front of the word, without spaces.
The inbuilt search system is not clever. You may wish to use an external search engine to try and get better results. For example, to use Google to search the site, type "site:wiki.urbandead.com" and then your search terms into the bar. Google will only return results from the wiki. Note that the results you get depends on when Google's bots last indexed the site, thus you won't get the most current results, and may turn up results from pages that have since been deleted.
Locations
If you know the name of the location, type the full name in or copy-paste from the game. This will generally get you to the page. If you know your co-ordinates, you can type them in to get redirected to the correct page. EG: 0,0 or 99,99. If there are multiple locations with the same name, you will need to know which suburb you are in to navigate to the correct building.
When dealing with generic locations such as wastelands, warehouses, carparks and the like, and wish to navigate to the exact page, you will need to know the co-ordinates. All of these pages follow the naming system like so; Warehouse 2,5, Factory 3,6, Carpark 89,50.
If you know which suburb you are in, you may wish to just get a better overview of the area. Type in the suburb's name to get sent to that page. Scroll down and there will be a suburb map to guide you.
If you are dealing with a location named "St Something" (typically a church or hospital), you might not get redirected to the page. The game uses the St abbreviation without the full stop, while the wiki uses the St. abbreviation with the full stop. So try adding this in if the initial search fails.
