So, what do people think? Jonny12 talk 22:48, 20 August 2007 (BST)

You beat me to it, I've been working on a policy proposal for letting Sysops delete author blanked pages. Your proposal goes a little overboard in my option, Special:Unusedimages is already covered by [Deletion Schedule] and I would like to see a more concrete Category structure before Special:Unusedcategories gets cleaned out. I think you need a much clearer list of what can and can not be deleted with this policy. My suggestion would be change it to Sysops can delete:
  • Broken Redirects (as needed)
  • Redirects and other leftovers from page moves (we can already but we don't)
  • Blanked Pages with only one contributor

That right there would cut through 75% of the stuff that goes to speedy deletion. - Vantar 23:10, 20 August 2007 (BST)

I'd say aye on deleting broken redirects and unused categories, no on everything else. --Banana reads Scoundrell for all of Yesterday's News, Today! 00:43, 21 August 2007 (BST)

I'm with Vantar on this --~~~~T''' 09:16, 21 August 2007 (BST)

What do you think about the missed sub-page/talk page bit? If someone's pages have been deleted then why not? And if they want to keep them, then some can just put a note at the top. Jonny12 talk 12:07, 21 August 2007 (BST)
In theory a sysop could delete a missed subpage/talkpage already, because for the page to have been deleted in the first place there had to be a (speedy) deletetion request thus when a missed page is discovered the original request for its deletetion can be used (as long as there hasn't been an undeletetion request in the meantime) but thats just how I have looked at Criteria 5 and 13's aplication. -Sidenote the best way to keep a page from being delete is by requesting the page to be moved to a subpage of your userpage rather than the 5 or 6 "Please don't delete this" templates that are floating around the wiki - Vantar 14:18, 21 August 2007 (BST)
Ok, then, so I'll change it to what you suggested. Anyone want to add anything before I move it to voting?—The preceding unsigned comment was added by Jonny12 (talkcontribs) at an unknown time.
Pages with the {{movedelete}} template on them, and have been left for at least a week? The preceding signed comment was added by boxy (talkcontribs) at 12:45 22 August 2007 (BST)

Opinion

I for one would like a definition of what counts as unused before I vote. One of my groups pages rarely gets edited and was put up for deletion. We were/are still active but don't feel much need to change the page. If this went through i suspect we would only have found out a good many weeks after it was too late! --Honestmistake 00:35, 21 August 2007 (BST)

I think unused ones are ones which aren't on any pages. So an unused category isn't categorising anything. Jonny12 talk 12:07, 21 August 2007 (BST)
There is no mention of including group pages in this (unless they qualify under other criterion, like being empty pages) The preceding signed comment was added by boxy (talkcontribs) at 12:45 22 August 2007 (BST)

I'm a little wary though, of allowing stuff to be deleted without leaving a record somewhere. As it is now, everyone can check almost everything that has been deleted by putting the A/D and A/SD pages on their watchlist. Short pages should definitely be limited to completely empty pages, or ones that only contain "delete this" (or similar) messages, placed there by the only editor The preceding signed comment was added by boxy (talkcontribs) at 12:45 22 August 2007 (BST)

I thought that anything deleted turned up in Special:Log/delete anyway doesn't it? So there'll always be a record of who did what. Jonny12 talk 18:24, 23 August 2007 (BST)
This is a very bad idea, sysops constantly talk about how they are just users they should be held to the same standards and have to jump through the same hoops, especially when it comes to deleting pages.--Karekmaps?! 01:21, 25 August 2007 (BST)

Final version

This is what I'm going to include in the final version:

Special:BrokenRedirects
Special:Shortpages - where the length is 0 bytes OR the page contains a message along the lines of "delete this"
Special:Unusedimages
Special:Unusedtemplates

  • Pages with {{movedelete}} on
  • Redirects and other leftovers from page moves
  • Blanked Pages with only one contributor.

Anything else before I put it up for voting? Jonny12 talk 18:24, 23 August 2007 (BST)

I like the policy, but both Special:Unusedimages and Special:Unusedtemplates should be excluded or included as they are expressely on the other policies: Unused images getting deleted when they are at least one month old and unused templates after they get a week old. Anyways, if you exclude them altogether you won't be adding much work for us because these rarely get reported. --Matthew Fahrenheit YRCT+1 03:08, 25 August 2007 (BST)

Thinking on this a bit more, it really is just a dupe of Scheduled Deletions. Just go to the bottom of A/D and nominate what you think should be able to be deleted "on sight", it's the same thing as you're proposing here The preceding signed comment was added by boxy (talkcontribs) at 11:09 25 August 2007 (BST)
