The Urban Dead Leaderboard was an independent project run by Raymond A. Buckley III a.k.a. "Raeleus" a.k.a. "Ray3k.", a player of Urban Dead.

History Of The Leaderboard

This ambitious project was started on July 18th 2006 in an attempt to create a fun addition to the game. Players who contributed to the board in it's early days were met with a very small page with minimum graphics. Players had to e-mail the creator their profile links to appear on the board.

Since then, the board matured and improved greatly. The site was more colourful and had an easy to understand graphical base, with images that represented each class as well as the gender of each player. The board featured links to the UD Wiki Group pages of certain players as well as links to the profiles of each participant.

Having started with a handful of participants, the board ended up with over 600 entries.

Features Of The Board

As well as the above features, the leaderboard also awarded 'trophies' to certain participants.

Gold, Silver and Bronze trophies were awarded to the top three players of the entire board. Featherweight trophies are awarded to the top three players under level 15. A separate leaderboard was maintained for these players.

A daily prize was also awarded to the zombie player with the most deaths as well as to the player who earned the most XP each day.

A pleasant feature was that of a special message which appeared daily for characters who joined the game on the same day a year or more ago. This was known as a birthday.

Characters could be added easily by pasting a profile URL into a form. It was possible to search for a character by typing the name into a search box.

Scoring System

Scores were calculated by the following formulas:
SurvivorScore = XP + classBonus + 200 * survivorSkills + 75 * zombieSkills
ZombieScore = XP + classBonus + 200 * zombieSkills + 75 * survivorSkills

The "200 * skills" was meant to reward higher level characters. The "75 * other skills" was designed to compensate for the xp spent for these skills. However it did not award the player for having extra skills.

Class bonuses were awarded to survivors to offset the advantage of civilians being able to buy more skills with less XP.
Civilians: +0
Military: +100
Scientist: +325

Zombies are awarded a class bonus because they had fewer overall skills.
Zombies: + 400

So it can be seen that the higher your level, the more skills you have as well as your total XP increased the likelihood of entering the top 10 players.
