You are on a street before the Woolven Building, a five-storey brick apartment a few hundred meters north of the border. The streets below are empty, save the abandoned vehicles and multicolored debris.
Shreds of posters flutter from a vandalised billboard. On a nearby wall somebody has spraypainted Trust in others and disclose your location. Assume the worst and never be found. - CRE and below is a city map.
- You look up and to the right where there is a window. A face had been been watching your struggles, though you can hold on no longer. They look surprised and clearly confused; the pink mouth is open slightly, the blonde eyebrows raised; the face is youthful but frozen and stupid. You have that one look as you fall, as you crash on the fire escape and slam onto the street.
You expect they look down at your crumpled, bloody and bent body, and fathom at what made you attempt the climb. They are the irreconcilable outsiders and will puzzle at this for days on end. You are dead as you watch the sky. You cannot move your eyes back to that window. Limbs are held, lungs, muscles; but it is momentary. The way is out, right here.
