You are on a road. Tufts of long grass push through the erosion of the concrete. A lone semi-trailer, plastered with sun-bleached photographs, rests on the side of the road.
A battered sign reads:
- ONE WAY - NO BACK TRAFFIC
- STALLED VEHICLES TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD
- CONSOLIDATE GAS: USE FEWEST VEHICLES
- The photographs, with like-colours faded into each other, are difficult to make out. Most people are all smiles, others, with red-eye. Left by another for another, the photographs have little meaning. You don't recognize anyone.
Inventory:
- You carry only a bent knife and a smashed radio. It has been a long ride. Your blue jeans are shredded; the T-shirt, stretched 2 sizes larger, is more red than white, and your shoes are unaccounted for. You wear a crumpled paper party hat.
