You are inside a walled area. It is heavily overgrown, including the garden. An old farmhouse has burned down.
- This place was used long ago, and only visited by people the likes of you. They asked the same questions, and each imagined a possible timeline. Each came through, a different variation of the last. Each had the same basic properties, changed by different conditions.
A pool of features altered from the previous pool, and each passerby affected differently and coming out the other end with a unique outcome. A different permutation is a different pool of features. Here you wade through the pool, your changed arrangement recorded, and re-assorted to your original arrangement and brought through the next permutation. Way up above, an observer can see what each and every feature, from the particles of solids to which street is blocked, can do. But only from the set conditions and the outcome of the passerby, never really understanding the between. Before and after, the process elusive.
Maybe a particular outcome is desired, with the intention only to have a specific kind of company. No grand plan of understanding the universe.
