Dr. Charles L. Delmore--crestfallen doctor in search of a greater purpose. A slightly greying man in his late 40s, dressed in a worn grey T-shirt, white doctor's coat, dark blue trousers, and a pair of black sneakers. His left hand has been amputated, and on his chest there is a badge common among Malton survivors, asking to revive him when dead. Normally found in a study, reading quietly by a feeble oil lamp.

Charles Delmore was born July 11, 1959, in the small town of Winchester, Iowa. Even in childhood, Delmore had been a bright mind. Though his interests ranged widely from music to history, the majority of this mind was devoted to his passion in science--the same passion which led him to become a doctor. In 1989, Delmore received his M.D. from the University of Iowa, and began a long and fulfilling career in pathological research.

As a pathologist, Delmore participated in numerous important research projects, many oriented on the behavioral modifications of encephalitic infections. Among his most notable research were studies on the correlation between Toxoplasmosis and Schizophrenia, treatment of rabies through induced coma, and possible causes behind the 1920s outbreak of Encephalitis lethargica.

Such a background in pathology attracted much attention from the government during the outbreak in Malton. With little delay, Delmore had been recruited into a massive government research program to identify and control the contagion responsible for the crisis--a program doomed to failure. Though initial research was promising, the growing zombie presence quickly eliminated scientists, interfered with research, and severed communications vital to the program's survival. Opposition was also met outside Malton--cynical politicians questioned whether a pathogen was indeed responsible for the incident, and whether the crippled program would ever be able to find its cure. The political debate reached a consensus with the discovery of a shadowy method of revivification by Necrotech, and (despite a profound ignorance of how the method worked) the government program was abandoned.
