DragonMayne's Story
The nightmares I keep having never seem to lose there intensity.
Lot of times I would wake up at night sweating bullets, wondering if it had all happened again. If the war had some how started up again wail I was sleeping. I always sighed when I realized I was still safe.
After my time in the Marine Special Forces, I became a firefighter. Seemed like a good job for me. Physically exerting, mentally rewarding, and it actually made me proud that, for some time, I was saving lives instead of taking them. It took my mind off of those demon days, as I liked to call them.
I was washing the Truck in the fire department garage when the out break happened. My crew of five, John, Eddy, Mark, Warren, and my self received a call from the local police on Malton's east side saying that they needed every available man to help with a riot. I figured they only wanted us to set up barricades. We never made it down the block.
None of us knew what the hell was going on. There were people in large groups staggering in the streets. So Eddy stopped the truck. I told him to keep driving, something obviously wasnt right.
The Smell hit me before the rest of the guys.
That smell...I know that smell.
Just as I was about to slap Eddy in the head and tell him to floor it, Eddy and John had jumped out of the fire truck and were running toward something.
Holy shit, Jared get over here its a little girl! She looks like shes hurt bad!
I hopped out of the truck and slowly began walking over to where Eddy and John were standing yelling at them to hurry that we had to get the hell out of here and back to the station.
A mob of people had poured out from a side street and started attacking the fire truck. Mark and Warren were trapped. Just as I looked over to see this, I heard Eddy scream.
The little girl had bitten him on the neck. Blood oozed from under her lips. John was trying to pull her off and the mob was getting closer. I needed a weapon.
I ran over to the stop sign and pulled it over then lifted it back and bent it over to the other side, pushing it back one last time and the metal snapped. It wasnt an axe but it would do.
I ran over to Eddy and John, John had gotten the girl off of Eddy and was battling to hold her on the ground. I yelled at John to get out of the way and as soon as he was clear I slammed the jagged metal end of my make shift axe into her skull.
Eddy was holding his neck and John had gone over to help him up off the ground. I told them to get into the library that was just to the left of us on the corner and to get the wound tied up on Eddys neck. I had to save Mark and Warren.
It all flooded back to me. Like a tidal wave hitting the shore. The training, the horror, and all the things I never wanted to experience again. And the Animal was loose.
Back in the force I earned the code name Dragon. They said when I was in the fight I was an unstoppable force of nature. I wouldnt let that name down now.
I jumped into the mass of staggering bodies. Cutting them down as they came working my way to the truck. As I reached it I kicked one of the Zombie bastards in the teeth. The way was clear.
Mark and Warren quickly jumped out of the truck. We all ran to the side of it and grabbed as much Equipment as we could. Axes, First aid kits, And some other gear.
We cut our way over to the library. Mark was cussing like a sailor and yelling something about GTA, What ever that is, and we burst through the doors. John was one step ahead of me. He had moved some tables over to the doors. And we put them in place as fast as we could. After Barricading every window and door on the first floor we retreated to the second level. I treated Eddys wound the best I could, wail John and Mark went looking for anything useful. Warren was looking for food.
We slept that night thinking we were safe for now, but then something woke me. It was a strange sound, like the sound mud makes when you step in it. I turned on the table I had fallen asleep on to see Eddy, standing in what looked like a lake of blood. It dripped off of him and I knew right then that the others were dead.
Wasting no time I jumped up and dropkicked Eddy in the face making sure my foot stayed on his head on the way down. All two hundred forty pounds came crashing down on his skull. Like a truck running over a watermelon. It pained me to do it. He was a good man, had a wife and kids two. How sad, for it to end like this for him.
So I set to the grisly task before me. Mark, John, and Warren were dead and if they were killed by Eddy, I needed to make sure they wouldnt get back up.
Afterward I took the patches with their names and department number on them and burned that building to the ground. It was a sad thing but there was nothing that I could do for them.
In my travels across the city I ran into a police officer who called him self Raven. He told me that he had joined a group Called the Oddlots Irregulars seemed a good place to go. I figured I could help some. What with my training and background and all.
He asked me my name. I was going to tell him my real name but that person was dead now. All that was left was the DragonMayne.
