A (Semi-)Brief Description

James Klein
Starting Occupation: Private

More details: Urban Dead profile

For years, Pvt. James Klein was an unlucky man, often through no fault of his own. He lost his first job at Necrotech, after someone crashed a local computer network from his work station. He joined the Armed Forces and promptly got put on kitchen police 17 times in 3 months for various reasons, including the complete destruction of the base fuel truck via a wayward cigarette. After finally making it out of basic training, the higher-ups lost his duty papers in a savage shredder incident. All in all, it wasn't a particularly good time to be James Klein.

Then, one day, lo-and-behold, he got an assignment! Finally, he'd be able to show he wasn't just a screw-up! He could fight, in Bosnia, Afghanistan, maybe even Iraq! Jumping around with happiness, his face turned to a frown once he saw where his station was.

"West Grayside Recruitment Depot."

And, in Klein's spate of horrible luck, that's where he was when the outbreak occurred.

As he worked in the back one day, screams, yelling and gunfire radiated throughout the building. Little warning came before the door to the back room crashed open, some crazed lunatic biting down on the arsehole in charge. Klein quickly grabbed a nearby fire axe and hacked away at the poor bugger before his body slumped down to the floor. His CO's lifeless body lay there underneath.

For a moment, at least. Suddenly, his dead CO's body rose up, groaning in some incomprehensible tongue, and Klein simply swung away. After wasting all but a few of his AP for the day, he ventured out of the building and across the street to a nearby police department where he promptly proceeded to contact his good friend Michael Harrison and concoct a plan to meet up as far away from the horrors of West Grayside as possible. It just wasn't far enough.

He and Michael now spend their days fighting for their lives, and the lives of their fellow survivors up in Rolt Heights. If you have a problem, if no one else can help, and if you can find them, these two probably won't be able to help. Sorry.

My first character.

A Canadian firefighter who, 5 years into his career, was given an opportunity to work for two months as a technician for a company called Necrotech. Considering the money they offered, he talked it over with his girlfriend, and soon agreed. However, without telling him where exactly Malton was, they flew him to the city, brought him to his new accommodations, and told him to get himself settled, as he would start the following week.

Surprised at having his life suddenly uprooted, he took that week to contact the company and ask if there was a position for his girlfriend as well, so they wouldn't have to live apart.

Oddly, Necrotech happily agreed to bring her, too, and she followed.

For a week after her arrival, nothing was heard from Necrotech. As they sat in their new home, odd things began to happen. His girlfriend found a hidden camera in the shower, an odd echo could be heard over their phone, and their neighbour seemed oddly interested in them.

Then the outbreak occurred.

More and more evidence began to pile up, showing that they were simply guinea pigs in Necrotech's sick game. So they figured, if Necrotech would watch their every move, they might as well make it interesting.

So Thesillyshmo came to Quartly Library, whilst his girlfriend, Hailey, ventured to better her skills elsewhere. And that is where they stand now, returning to each other from time to time, spreading literacy or spreading joy. Good luck, Hailey! Much love!
